Product Description:

The 3D fish are so vibrant, the tank scenery so colorful and dimensional, you'll think you're looking at the real thing! You choose 7 fish from a library of 26, including a brilliant lionfish, and watch them swim about randomly in a tank filled with coral and other marine life. You customize your tank by adjusting the lighting, the bubbles, the sound as well as screensaver feature settings. It's like owning a piece of the ocean.

What's new in this version:

Maintenance release to the Mac OS X version of the product to fix the following reported issues: a display issue when running the product on Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) which would cause the bubbles to display as a white area, and an interface issue when configuring the screen saver settings which could cause the settings window to become "orphaned".
This is a free update to owners of version 2. Owners of version 1 may upgrade to version 2.0.6 for a reduced price at http://www.serenescreen.com.
The "readme" text file recommends that you change your monitor to thousands of colors ONLY TO TEST FOR PERFORMANCE. If you want to run in millions of colors that is fine if your hardware can provide sufficient performance.
Upgrading to Panther corrupts the Marine Aquarium preferences. Quit System Prefererences and Marine Aquarium. Dispose of /Library/Preferences/com.prolific.ScreenSaver.Aquarium2.plist and empty the trash. This will be added to the readme file after comments have been received on this process.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher
  • 16 Megs VRAM for millions of colors

Marine Aquarium ReviewThe best but wait for the next version. - Version: 2.6.1, 4/28/2008 05:57PM PST

Cool Al_X
If you have a monitor >1024X768, WAIT FOR THE NEXT VERSION. This and Goldfish Aquarium 2 are the best of this type of screen saver, as it has the most realistic looking fish. However, it has some major flaws that prevent me from recommending it: (1) The background looks low resolution (pixelated) on my 1920X1200 iMac display. (2) There is only one background to choose from. How hard is it for them to put in several high-resolution backgrounds, really?!

Marine Aquarium ReviewOk, but my real fish tank is better than this - Version: 2.6.1, 9/11/2007 11:39PM PST

The animation is quite stiff. I realized that none of the corals or other invertebrates move, which gives it an overly artificial feel. It is nice, but I don't see shelling out $20 for a screensaver that comes free for Windoze users. On the other hand, my electric bill alone for the real fish tank is about $70 per month.

Some people had trouble with this on Intel, but it works on my MacBook Pro without any trouble. Still the best Screensaver around, but it's time they introduced some new fish, features etc...Agree about the customer service though. I haven't had a reply after 6 months, LOL!
