Product Description:

FileInfo lets you change seven pieces of information about a file:

Name, the filename
Type, the kind of file, for example a file you want to be text is of type TEXT
Creator, the owner of a file, for example a SimpleText file has a creator type of TTXT
Hide extension, can you see the file type at the end of the name, for example my.jpg has the visible file extension .jpg
Stationary, does the file open a copy instead of the original
Locked, can the file be changed or deleted
Label, the label color. Note that labels will be respected by MacOS 9 and MacOS X 10.3, but ignored in MacOS X 10.0-10.2.8.

After you've changed the file information you can choose from three buttons in FileInfo. If you cancel then no changes are made to the file or files. If you change all then every file you have dragged to FileInfo is changed to match what you have set. However the filenames are left alone, even if you have changed the name. If you change then that file is set to what you have in FileInfo.

What's new in this version:

FileInfo 1.3 displays the icon of the file's default application. The bug with changing the list of creators/types has been fixed.

I've used the 1.2 version for some time and been happy with it. I tried version 1.3 on a file (using OS X 10.4.11 on a G5) and got a weird error message: "Can't make current application into type <<class imaA>>"

Quick Change 3.0 worked fine for me and it is free.

I have used FileTyper for years, even in Classic mode under 10.3.9 on a G3! However, I have also been on the lookout for an OSX native replacement for FileTyper, to give me another good reason to no longer have to install OS9. I am happy to say that FileInfo just about makes the grade. I am going to keep FileInfo in my dock, but the ONLY thing that keeps me from relying solely upon it, is the fact that it doesn't have the option to make files visible or invisible. Developer, if you still have an interest in working on this app, will you please consider adding this functionality? Thanks!
