Product Description:

Tonto is a set of tools for the the popular Pronto line of programmable remote controls manufactured by Philips. The main tool in Tonto is a graphical editor similar to ProntoEdit.

What's new in this version:

After some time off, I've begun to fix a few things here and there. The build tools I used 3 years ago aren't available, so I'm offering my latest updates via Java Web Start. Most of the recent work benefits Mac users: Leopard compatibility and rock solid serial communications.

Tonto ReviewIt's at version 1.43 release and 1.44 in testing - Version: 1.421, 10/24/2003 08:38PM PST

I'm not a wizard with this or ProntoEdit, but I do like running the latter on VPC. But being able to also run a similar program in OS X is awesome. Both have tremendous depth, but ProntoEdit has an emulator for the device that's not in Tonto. Documentation for both programs is lousy; the learning curve is very steep. The fact that the author produced an OS X app based on the Windows program is simply astounding, and I really appreciate it. I think it does what it should do and more. The aforementioned web sites are critical for optimal use of these programs and your pronto. Go to http://giantlaser.com/tonto/?x=download for the latest versions.

a valid point, but your juvenile sarcasm is totally misplaced. I previously rated Tonto either 5 or 4 stars, but the author's total refusal to respond to all requests for documentary help must relegate it a little further. A piece of software, even freeware, is the sum of its total parts and documentation should be an important element of this. It's a complicated piece of hardware to program; even a rudimentary manual would be a help. Please save your rude, acid comments for others,
