Skins
JBuddy Messenger support several Java Look and Feel skins, which means how it looks can be customized depending on the environment and user preferences.

Buddy List Management
One of the challenges of using a multi-protocol instant messaging client is buddy list management. Often a savvy instant messaging user will have multiple screen names for many of their contacts; perhaps a work screen name and a home screen name. JBuddy Messenger v3.0 introduces Meta-Buddies (Trillian calls them Meta Contacts). A meta-buddy is an aggregation of the presence of multiple screen names under one buddy. Also, buddies groups of the same name across multiple accounts can be visually merged to simplify large buddy lists.

What's new in this version:

This release supports more operating systems and versions including Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the new Windows 7 64-bit. Many bugs have finally been fixed as well. Based on bug reports and some feedback since the v3.0 release, we have decided Microsoft Live Communications Server 2003, 2005 (LCS) and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) support within the JBuddy family of products including JBuddy Messenger is still at BETA level. LCS and OCS have particularly complex deployment scenarios in the enterprise and only with the help of users can we reach a mature implementation. We're getting closer!

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

JBuddy Messenger ReviewA toy - Version: 2.4.0822, 2/22/2008 10:03AM PST

VictoTronics
So many annoyances.....

My buddy list shows the groups "Contacts", "Other contacts" and "Work", and there is no way to tell it how to ignore those groups and just show me everyone. There also seems to be no way to move a buddy from one group to another.

When the program starts up it shows a small splash screen, then displays a dialog behind it. I just click on one of the buttons that sticks out from behind the splash screen, but I have no idea what I have just agreed to.

This is maybe an alpha version of a program that could conceivably be useful in a couple of years.

Developers, please do not list something as Freeware when its not.

Freeware = free to use, no expiration, not a trial, no money expected. This is ShareWare at best.

OK Seriously, I've been looking for a replacement for AIM. I wanted to try this out. Anytime I tried to connect, I got a message about an invalid license. I thought this was freeware? It wants me to register...

Maybe I'd consider paying for it, but I couldn't even *try* it. This product is not as advertised!
