Product Description:

Warning! Uptowner can allow you to seriously damage your system. Use it with extreme caution. Uptowner simply allows a user with administrative privileges to temporarily become the owner of an item and its enclosing folder. It temporarily promotes you up to owner. Sometimes I look at a root owned read-only file when logged in with administrative privileges, then decide I'd like to make a change. That's when Uptowner comes in handy.

Uptowner is an Applescript Studio project and the source is included in the download.

correction for the direct download link. In the meantime, please visit the Uptowner developer page and download from there. To answer another question, the only reasons for using Uptowner are to make the owner change easier than a trip to the info window (drag and click), and to make an automatic switch back to original owner part of the process (safer).
