Product Description:

(from the TiMidity home page): "TiMidity++ is a software synthesizer. It can play MIDI files by converting them into PCM waveform data; give it a MIDI data along with digital instrument data files, then it synthesizes them in real-time, and plays. It can not only play sounds, but also can save the generated waveforms into hard disks as various audio file formats." Do you have an old collection of MOD (or XM, MIDI, IT, or S3M) music files wasting away on your hard drive? Do you want to turn them into MP3's, but not want to have to buy a commercial application to do a simple conversion? If so, TiMidity++ is for you! TiMidity++ is a command-line program that will convert the following file types to WAV (which you can then convert to the MP3 format in iTunes):
  • MIDI (.mid)
  • MOD (.mod)
  • XM (.xm)
  • IT (.it)
  • S3M (.s3m)
Note that TiMidity++ does not currently convert the MAD (.mad) file type.

TiMidity++ Troubleshooting ReportCan't find timidity.cfg - Version: 2.11.3r1, 11/13/2006 06:59PM PST

timidity doesn't work right after installing. It complains with an error message:

/usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg: No such file or directory
timidity: Can't read any configuration file.

Is the installer supposed to provide this file?

This might not be obvious... The program will only recognize files with the proper filename extensions, even if they are proper MOD/S3M/whatever files.
