Product Description:

File Adopter uses your Internet Config preferences to add type and creator codes to files that lack them. Typeless files are common on Mac OS X, and are a source of numerous frustrations. File Adopter works with simple drag and drop. It can replace existing type and creator codes if they disagree with Internet Config, or only add codes when they are absent. After adopting a file, it shows you the changes it has made. You can also hold down Shift to orphan a file, instead of adopting it. This is useful if you know that the file has incorrect codes but that the correct ones aren't in Internet Config.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

File Adopter ReviewSeriously Cool - Version: 1.0, 5/11/2003 04:11AM PST

blue365
Seems like an ideal utility. Dead easy to use - much better than several others I have tried. Very well designed and documented.

Suggestions for next version:
* operate automatically on all files in a "watched folder"
* easier to find "UNDO/orphan" operation
* help file using mac help rather than pdf

have many audio apps that won't recognise .aif or .wav files copied across from my PC, even though they have the correct "dot3". Previously, I've needed to go through the tedium of fixing them one by one with Super Get Info. No More - just throw the whole folder on File Adopter.

inspired
us Mac users to leave file extensions where they belong -- in the gutter! I think it would be cool for File Adopter to integrate itself into the downloading process like Stuffit or Disk Copy does...it runs, does its job, then quits. Other than that, flawless product!
