phpMyAdmin ReviewSimply Great - Version: 2.11.8.1, 8/23/2008 05:36AM PST

I'm mainly writing this to offset the other person's opinion that phpMyAdmin is difficult to set up or that it doesn't work.

The truth is that if you are at all familiar with PHP and SQL this is a breeze to set up. It requires rock bottom beginner level understanding of both to setup and even less to use. It works very well and improves greatly with each version. phpMyAdmin is used by tons of web hosts because it is so easy to use.

I highly recommend it.

phpMyAdmin ReviewYou're an idiot... - Version: 2.11.8.1, 8/17/2008 07:25AM PST

welcome--2008
... if you think you can use this product without sweat and tears. The docs are only there to make you go crazy from the very start. Simply installing the thing in order to test it is a challenge by itself (unless you're a Unix geek of course). Instead of just telling you what's required and how to install, they make you go back and forth for hours and in the end it doesn't work anyway. I'll stick to CocoaMysql.

phpMyAdmin ReviewSolid release - Version: 2.11.4, 1/15/2008 05:44AM PST

We've been using the rc1 version of 2.11.4 for some time and find it solid and lacking the GUI issues reported earlier. It and CocoaMySQL remain the two simpliest mysql access solutions for our servers. No problems noted to date.

phpMyAdmin Usage TipMinor problem & a fix - Version: 2.10.2, 6/16/2007 07:12AM PST

(2 of 2 users found this comment useful)

Brak

After you've got it installed and configured, and you go to change databases you may notice some strange behavior. In 2.10.2 I noticed when I change databases, it would reload the side-menu with a 404 page, instead of displaying the table list for that database like it should. It appears that they changed the name of the left menu at the last moment (maybe?) and changed it from "left.php" to "navigation.php".

The easiest solution is to create a symbolic link named "left.php" that points to the new "navigation.php". cd to your phpMyAdmin directory and use the following command to do that: ln -s navigation.php left.php

They'll likely have this fixed soon making the symlink unneeded but I noticed it and figured I'd share.

Much of the time it is very handy to be able to use this. As the delete key doesn't work propperly over SSH to my server it is very nice to be able to go t web conviguration.

Overall, great work for a free product, but what's with the geriatric font size? Going back to an older version.

Could the fonts, button, pulldowns, etc. be any bigger?
What happened to this thing? It used to be great. Now the interface is completely cluttered. You need a 20" screen or you'll have to scroll sideways!

yech! Stick with 2.7

phpMyAdmin Troubleshooting ReportCannot view tables inside Capitalised databases - Version: 2.8.0, 3/7/2006 02:49AM PST

(1 of 1 users found this comment useful)

McClie
Due to a change in the way 2.8.0 has been coded, it has been caught out by a MySQL bug. This means that if you have any Databases that are capitalised (e.g., "Views" rather tha than "views"), then the tables within them will not be recognised. The CVS version has a workaround, but this version still has the problem.
