Product Description:

This is useful for determining server susceptibility to outside attacks, as well as seeing if a given service is working correctly.

Another use is looking for servers running on machines that should not be running servers. The nightmare of every sysadmin is for a user to privately run a server that compromises the security of the entire network.

PortSniffer can be used to check systems for Hotline server running on different ports from the normal port of 5550 as well. This is useful in finding secret or rogue Hotline sites in an organization.

v2.54beta30-2 can be installed using fink, for example. Portsniffer is working as advertised. Friendly but too expensive.

does exactly as it says. $15 is high for very limited scope of functionality in my opinion. If it was scriptable via AppleScript so that I could set up some automated logic to handle various situations, then the price could be justified in my opinion. Especially if the author included some of the obvious scripts with the product to save a buyers time.

v2.53 is a UNIX app so it is not an OSX application as such.
