IPNetTunerX CommentaryALTERNATIVE? - Version: 1.6.5, 11/27/2007 05:55PM PST

Tiger Cache Cleaner tunes for Broadband, Narrowband, Dialup, and restores defaults. It also repairs permissions, runs maintenance scripts, rebuilds prebindings etc, force empties trash, deletes files and folders, gives systems info, and deep cleans caches. I do not know if it does as good a job as this app on tuning for broadband, just thought you might find this info interesting. Tuning and optimizing are two different claims. Maybe try both?

Regardless of what I set: "Tuner Preset," "Quit After Login," "Apply," whenever I start the application it starts to default, "Apple FiOS Broadband Tuner," this makes me think my default settings go in the tank. No idea what is actually running.

i have a macpook pro 17" with os x 10.4.8 running.
IPNetTunerX 1.6 causes a lot of kernel panics.
everything runs fine than i fire up IPNetTunerX and after 10-20 min a kerel panic happens.
this is reproducible.
until the kernel panics IPNetTunerX makes a good job.
i would love to see a update that fixes my problem

I sure wish I knew how to use the advanced and not just the basic. I'm sure I can get more out of my 7mbs cable modem than just what the basic setting are getting me, which there is no change. It would be cool if this could detect your connection and make it the best that it can be.

I now haul ass. This really works. The only thing I would recommend to the dev would be to have a login item checkbox instead of having the user set that up. But, like I said... it works... I now haul ass.

....especially if it's already into version 1.4. That's called false advertising.

Time = money on my computer. I purchased IPNetTunerX in 2002 and my original license still works. Here are a couple speed tests of my DSL connection before and after IPNetTunerX (kbps):

Before, Test 1: 544 down/724 up
Before, Test 2: 519 down/725 up

After, Test 1: 601 down/725 up
After, Test 2: 601 down/723 up

That's greater than 10% speed increase of download speed over OS X's default settings. If you don't need or want faster speeds, or if you know how to manually tweak OS X settings to get the same results, this app isn't for you. For me, it's been worth every penny for over 3 years now.

After reading the negative reviews here I was somewhat reluctant to try IPNetTunerX, but with a free trial period I had nothing to lose. My Macs running OS X have always felt sluggish on the Internet, compared to my Windows machines. I had decided to live with it.

This evening I did a speed test - I have a 2mbit cable connection to the internet and after doing a few speedtests I found I was getting around 1500Kbps. After installing IPNetTunerX I repeated the test once more and immediately I got the same result I had been getting on Windows - 1907Kbps.

Maybe all these settings could be tweaked manually - I certainly haven't the time or the inclination to do this. I have previously tried free utilities like Broadband Optimizer, but these had very little effect.

Softworks offer an educational discount too - I was able to take advantage of this so it only cost me $21.
