Product Description:

Barcode Automator is barcode generation software specifically designed for bulk generation and AppleScript automation. Barcode Automator supports 9 different symbologies, includes vectorized EPS and TIFF export capabilities, and comes bundled with OCR typography.

Barcode Automator 1.0 features:
  • Complete support for EAN-8, EAN-13, ISBN (Bookland EAN), ITF Variable (I2of5), ITF-14, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, and Code 128 symbologies.
  • Integrated values editor with text import and automatic serialization capabilities (including high-range numeric values and step-repeat options).
  • Full AppleScript support (examples included) with format, factor, content/addendum, truncation, and symbology-specific support options.
  • Interactive, anti-aliased "test environment" module allowing users to preview a barcode with test values before generating a series.
  • XML-based import/export of symbology/value configuration for processing or modification in other XML-friendly software.
  • Export options to EPS (vector data) and/or grayscale TIFF (up to 1200 dpi) file formats.
  • Automatic check digit calculation and insertion.
  • Bundled with optical character recognition typefaces OCR-A and OCR-B, in both TrueType(r) and PostScript(r) formats. Use of OCR fonts for the human-readable portion of a barcode are recommended by most standards organizations.

What's new in this version:

  • Adds a new option to include a white box behind the barcode. We recommend using this feature, since it helps designers know the space that they need to leave around the barcode for it to function properly. It can also be turned off to create a "transparent" barcode.
  • Increases the speed of barcode generation by using several new pre-generation initialization sequences.
  • Fixes several bugs.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS Classic

are not afraid of Terminal, there is a versatile library and command-line program called "barcode" that can be downloaded for free from sourceforge.net. With a little bit of shell scripting, I believe it will do everything this product does. I just used it to generate consecutive UPC+5 barcodes in EPS format for my line of note cards, from data stored in a database. It is easily integrated with other free UNIX software, like perl, PHP, MySQL. Did I mention it is FREE? Of course, if you demand a GUI, you may be better off spending $500...

works well, but I think far too expensive for what it does. Also, I couldn't test the functionality of importing a text file. No matter what type of text doc I make, it either will not allow importing, or when it does, I get a nilObject Exception error and it shuts down. If that function doesn't work correctly, it would quickly get tiring to type in long lists of barcode numbers to generate. Minus one star for being so expensive and minus one for the problem with the text import.
