Buggy software and no support - Version: 3.5.1, 11/17/2007 01:29PM PST

Avoid this developer and his products. The software is buggy. He imposes ridiculous licensing restrictions for little shareware applications and provides no customer service or support. It's really not worth the trouble.

AdGate is an outstanding utility

For me, it stops almost all offensive popups and many in-page ads. (I could stop more ads if I were more diligent in identifying them to AdGate.) Right now, after maybe a week since restarting my G4, it's showing 881 popups blocked. It was well worth paying for. (BTW, I don't remember how many months ago I first started using it, but the new VersionTracker page requires that I pick something.)

Mozilla I guess) uses IPv6 now, so ADGate blocking does not work there. ADGate v3.2.5, which fixes this problem, will be release soon after the stress test.

ad blocking (and more) should take a look at www.privoxy.org. FREE software (GNU), with webpage interface. Powerful!! Perhaps a bit more complicated to setup than ADGate, but not much. Much better anyway than Norton Privacy Guard. Intego Netbarrier was OK but writes each 5 minutes to a logfile, so won't let your HD spindown. I'm finding hard to believe the quantity and quality of free software out there for UNIX. Thanks, Apple, for OS X!!!!!!
More powerful each…

work for Safari, though Safari only. It uses private APIs of Safari, which allows quick developement (of PithHelmet), but means to be broken in new versions (shows in its comments at VT). Still, it is a new way to do the same work, and great way too - hope Apple make these APIs public.
