escapepod CommentaryRe splashscreen and LOUD noise... - Version: 1.0.0d3, 5/27/2005 12:54AM PST

I recently discovered, way down deep in the version history, Unix commands to disable both of these annoyances.

Other than to save novices from venturing into the dangerous territory that is Terminal, I've no idea why the developer hasn't made these commands more prominent.

I'm an idiot. Works fine in Panther. A "must have" app.

escapepod CommentaryEven works on Screen Saver - Version: 1.0.0d3, 7/26/2003 11:52PM PST

Be careful, this can even kill a password protected screen saver (though I haven't tried with the latest screen saver security update). I would advise against running this on any system that uses screen saver for safety. That being said, this is really useful and really should be something built in to the OS (along with a key-combo that drops you into a unix prompt).

2 things need to change:

1. The sound it makes is TOO LOUD!! My God! It about blows my speakers when I'm cranking my tunes.

2. Get rid of the start-up pop-up screen ASAP! I absolutely HATE seeing pop-ups every single time I log in or restart my computer.... especially for FREEware.

Otherwise, this app is a MUST HAVE!! It has saved me numerous times from full screen crashes that otherwise would've required a force restart of my iMac.

escapepod Commentarypeterpayne: it is… - Version: 1.0.0d3, 2/5/2003 12:32AM PST

neither, really. The force-quit window is owned by the LoginWindow application. So if you use escapepod to nuke the frontmost process when that window is up, it kills the LoginWindow process, which is in effect a force-logout.

handy to have. One note: quitting the "force quit" box in OS X causes an instant re-log in (basically a crash of all apps and reloading). It'd be nice if this didn't do this, unless it's a feature and not a bug.
