Features include customizable syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, ColdFusion, Perl, and Python, code-completion for CSS, HTML, and ColdFusion, code-hinting for PHP, Perl, Python, and JavaScript, auto-completion of end-tags, automatic save, a Site View for managing your files, a "Code Navigator" to easily browse your code, an RGB-Hex converter, auto-insertion of common tags for new documents, snippets to store common strings, powerful search and replace, with regular expressions, multi-file searching, and quick real time search, a "Tag Tree" drawer that slides out from the window to let you easily build HTML tags and CSS parameters by choosing values from lists, auto-tab, FTP support (may not work for everyone), HTML Tidy Integration, Perl and Python support, some CVS integration, free updates after initial purchase, the interface remembers how you use the program, line-numbering, and more.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved Snippets
    • Now stored as individual files, so they can be organized into an arbitrary directory structure, and can be easily shared
    • Customizable key combination
    • Customizable "keyword completion", allowing you to assign a keyword to a snippet, which is expanded into the snippet when typed
    • Can create "hotspots" within the snippet that can be tabbed through
  • Added User Scripts: Similar to the feature in Xcode, a user can write scripts for any shell, and have the scripts operate on text within skEdit
    • skEdit comes with scripts for sorting lines of text, commenting and uncommenting lines, and others
  • User extensible code-completion for tag based languages: Add your own code-completion definitions
    • skEdit comes with definitions for HTML, ColdFusion, and MovableType
  • German and Spanish Localizations

I am using skEdit on an almost daily basis and have to say that for web development it is the best editor I have found. Even there are always things to improve (e.g. project management, file diff, ...) I am able to do everything I need to.

skEdit Troubleshooting ReportProblem with syntax coloring - Version: 4.0, 12/15/2007 04:01PM PST

I can't make sense of the new syntax coloring preference pane. I checked the help manual and it was no help. I used to be able to edit specific colors for different parts of the document (tags, quotes, comments, etc).

HELP!!!
