MacStumbler ReviewNo Intel support - try iStumbler - Version: 0.75b, 2/10/2007 11:24AM PST

Unfortunately MacStumbler doesn't work on Intel macs - at least not my Macbook. I needed something to find hotspots whilst I travel so I found (thanks to an earlier user review here) iStumbler. It does just what I want, finds way more hotspots than the standard wifi menu control, tells me at a glance if the hotspot is open, and tells me what services and ports each host supports. Certainly worth the $20 suggested donationware.

MacStumbler continues to have one feature not matched by iStumbler - voice notification! The feature set is also somewhat more developed, still, than iStumbler.

My new MacBook sure would like to have an Intel version....

MacStumbler CommentaryFeatures lacking, but *finally* for the Mac! :-) - Version: 0.75b, 3/2/2006 02:23PM PST

phuckmv2006

Kudos to the developers for getting this ported to the mac! Apparently I'm late to the party, but I've been looking for this for years! Now I can figure out who's stomping on my wireless networks! Bad neighbors. :-(

A couple of requests/suggestions:
1) make the split between the live screen and the log "draggable".

2) Make the fields in the windows "sortable" (so one could potentially sort by open/closed, or alphabetically, or whatever...)

3) maybe a search window? After getting a lot of about 150 hot-spots it gets a little hard to find that "linksys" which maxed at "76" signal. ;-)

Thanks for the very useful program on the best computer platform! :-D

MacStumbler is good at what it does. It is an active network stumbler, and has a nice lightweight GUI and works well. However, if you are serious, I reccomend using KisMac (http://binaervarianz.de/projekte/programmieren/kismac/)

MacStumbler ReviewGreat Application - Version: 0.75b, 7/5/2004 07:31AM PST

MacStumbler's a nice little app that does exactly what it's supposed to do... find wireless networks, display them onscreen, and move them to a log when they're out of range.

The GUI is simplistic but nice. I like that the log is onscreen instead of hidden away somewhere like in AirStumbler.

This application would be perfect if it had a Join command like AirStumbler does, but otherwise, miles ahead of every other simple wireless network audit application.

Hey,
I recently got a powerbook G4 and an airport network. I downloaded the macstumbler and now it says it cant find an aplication to open it with or it "could not read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable". So...what application does it use?......What do I do??
Thanks,
Stephanie

I have just bought a powerbook with airport extreme. Why would I be interested in what networks are in my vicinity?
