Product Description:

AntiWordService is a free filter service from DEVONtechnologies that enables any Cocoa application able to read plain text, for example TextEdit or DEVONthink Personal Edition, to open Microsoft Word documents. The actual conversion is done by the command line utility »antiword«. So, up to now, only plain text is preserved, no images and no formatting. This may change in some future version on AntiWordService, though.

What's new in this version:

  • Theoretically supports Word documents without proper file extension but with HFS type codes 'W8BN' or 'WDBN' Note: Due to bugs in Mac OS X up to version 10.1.5, this feature does not work yet, but it will as soon as the system works according to Apple's documentation.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1 or higher

I had problems using antiword and this helped out perfectly. Even without problems with antiword, this simiplified the process altogether.

Download WordServices by the same company. It's free and it has formatting options to remove hard wrapping. Both AntiWordService and WordService work perfectly in TextEdit. HTH
