I want to love Abiword, I really do, but it just has too many problems, especially with text rendering/spacing. And these problems have been there for two years
Wow, this is great!

This is a really terrific little program and was a lifesaver for me... someone sent me a WordPerfect file I just couldn't open at all and AbiWord opened it right up and I was able to work with the file immediately! It gets a big "thumbs up" and a big "thank you" from me!
Font rendering makes it only a document reader...

It's a nice app, I like to work with it, but it maintain the problem with the font rendering wich make it clumsy to use, and impossible to print in good conditions.
I recomend Abiword to quickly read Micro$oft Word documents, wich is impossibly slow on OpenOffice. AbiWord is also better than TextEdit for that purpose.
Unfortunately, for serious work I have to use OpenOffice for Macos X (NeoOffice).
Hint: inspire yourselves in the open office code (it's opensource!) to make rendering functional. You have adventage over openoffice for text documents, in terms of speed.
Thanks for the good work, I appreciate it!

IT IS FREE! It is useful and does not crash! The Price Is right!

This program is pretty slow.
I have a favorite word processor --- Nisus Writer Express --- so maybe this isn't objective.
Nice features, but so clunky..

spacing is erratic. for some reason, attempting hebrew leaves everything in columns. ? Anyone succeeded? Admittedly, english seems to be okay. And I have no problem using TextEdit for Word files. At least this is free, I suppose.
I downloaded AbiWord when I discovered that an important document was emailed to me in the wrong format (Wordperfect instead of Word) and I needed to have it in the proper format immediately so I could edit it and print it out. Word would not allow me to open the file in any way, other than as a text file with a bunch of code garbage that would have taken hours to edit out.
Abiword opened it, but would not allow me to make any corrections. I was, however, able to save it as a Word file, and work with it in Word as needed. It saved my butt and I am grateful. It's a good little program to have as a complement to a real word processing program, even if it is buggy.
