Product Description:

Copernicus has been engineered from the ground up to bring you the easiest, fastest screenshot and movie capture available.

It features the ability to capture movies directly to ram, offering higher framerates than possible with other programs. If your movie is a bit longer, you can capture to disk instead. With either option, you can choose to post-compress the video in several Quicktime formats, including MPEG4.

By default, screenshots are automatically directed to the thumbnail viewer, where you can sort through the screenshots you've taken, and make modifications such as removing the mouse cursor, or adding a watermark. Screenshots can be saved to many formats, including JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, and more.

Copernicus can run as a normal application, or in "Hidden" mode, where the dock icon is invisible. With the push of a single hotkey, you can invoke the main Copernicus window. From here you can capture the entire screen, part of the screen, or start recording a movie. The main window is even themable, with three themes built in for your viewing pleasure.

The region selection tool is far more powerful than the one built into Mac OS X. Invoking region capture darkens the entire screen by 50%, then highlights your selection, so you can see exactly the picture you are going to get. The advanced mode allows you to create a selection rectangle by dragging the mouse, and holding the option key zooms in on the point being dragged so you can fine tune the selection. The arrow keys also work as nudge keys, and the coordinates of the selection are displayed on the top left of the selection. As a final added bonus, Copernicus works with Classic applications, unlike the built in screenshot tool in OS X.

What's new in this version:

  • [new] Added short instruction window to region capture for first time users.
  • [new] Wrote manual. Available on website.
  • [chg] Updated "Ice" theme to "Ice 2". Now supports object capture.
  • [fix] Cancelled object captures no longer produce images.
  • [fix] Null selection bug not properly fixed in 1.2.8.
  • [fix] Command key now works in hotkey settings.
  • [fix] Now automatically selects next screenshot when deleting screenshots.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

  • Mac OS X 10.1 or higher (10.2 for Object Capture)

Used Copernicus to capture Google Earth fly-thrus. Reported 19fps (after a few attempts). MacBook with 10.4. Was able to drag and drop resultant Quicktime movies into iMovieHD and edit. Was able to cut/paste/add using Quicktime Pro. Awesome. Free.
