Music Rescue ReviewMight be a good program, but... - Version: 3.1.6, 9/30/2007 12:48AM PST

I can't deal with (and should not have to!) a "Please Register" warning every FIVE F#&%ING SECONDS! Give me a day to evaluate it first, for god's sake! Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I'm not going to put up with such "enthusiasm" to get my money.

And no documentationat all?

Music Rescue ReviewVery Good Program - Version: 3.1.2, 6/18/2007 07:59PM PST

A little disappointed with this program, I expected it to do more than it did. First off, it didn't copy any of my Ratings, Play Counts, or Last Played info. It copied my playlists over, but they came through without names so they're called "untitled playlist 1-20." Also, my smart playlists became regular playlists.

It did copy all my album artwork, but the reason I was copying off my iPod instead of my computer (just bought a new computer) is that I wanted to retain all my rating information. If I don't get my rating information I might as well have copied them straight from my old computer, then at least the folders would be set up exactly how I wanted.

I did like how I could select the format of the file names before I imported, I previously tried iPod Rip and it loading my music on with a format I didn't like so I ended up going through and changing a bunch of the file names. With this one you can custom make your file names by choosing between all sorts of different pieces to add in. I was able to format all my songs like (Artist) - (Song Name) (Extension - .mp3).

As I said, it brought all my album artwork over, and while iPod Rip did that too, it didn't do it for every single song file so I had a bunch of missing artwork and would have had to still add artwork to the ones missing it.

Contrary to what another feedback says, it loaded in every last song on my iPod, checked or not. No problem with unchecked music not making it over. I don't know how I'd go about loading just one playlist or a selection of songs, with no music highlighted and clicking "copy" it copies EVERYTHING on the iPod. It might take a bit of work to figure out how to copy over just one playlist or just selected songs (since the checked/unchecked thing didn't make a difference for me).

Overall I was disappointed in this program because I expected to retain my rating and play count information and none of that information came over. I will probably end up undoing all of the work it just did and using a different program that can bring rating and play count info with it.

Music Rescue ReviewLooks pretty but functionality limited... - Version: 3.0.3, 11/12/2006 10:19PM PST

I downloaded this for a specific problem. I accidentally deleted a playlist from iTunes and wanted to restore it from my iPod. Seems simple, this program is supposed to be able to do this, so I gave it a shot.
Well the documentation is really intended for people looking to restore their whole libraries from their iPod, music and all, which is fine. However don't thrown in a few meager bits about restoring a Playlist and then say this thing can "restore" a playlist. From much trying and mucking about with this program I could only get the playlist I wanted back by allowing the app to re-copy all the songs to my library. Fair enough, following the help files I would just tell it to 'skip' all my files (since they are all still in my library) and simply allow it to re-create the one playlist I wanted out of about 25 I have. Well unlike the docs it didn't offer to skip, it appended a 1 to each filename and copied all the songs back to my library. It also copied all my other *unselected* playlists so that I now had 2 of all of them. There was no way to link the playlist to my *old* files so when I deleted the new copies of songs it cleared my playlist.
Long story short, not the util forrestoring playlists unless they improve the docs, make steps more clear and straighten out functionality of this app.
It is a nice looking program that seems capable but if it can't do things you are offering it for maybe spend more time on the basics. Also good luck finding the contact email for the programmer.

This software rescued all my music from my iPod when my hard drive died - that's about 8600 songs. Not only that, but it rebuilt my playlists and preserved play counts. But better still, it salvaged all my album artwork from an iPod that is an old, pre-colour screen model that doesn't even have the capability to show the artwork that I have in iTunes. And aside from music, it reimported my whole Address Book. If only I had an iPod that saved photos!

To say that I'm happy is an understatement. Best money I've ever spent.

I have downloaded nearly EVERY APP for doing this; this is thus far the best I have found. Works GREAT, easy interface, and FREE. I only docked a star for ease of use because I had to figure out that it copies the songs that are CHECKED...so if you want to just copy a playlist only, you have to UNCHECK the whole iPod library first, then select the playlist and check all of them. Fortunately, if you select a group of files and click the checkbox, it checks/unchecks all of them at once.

Regardless of the suitability of the app - or otherwise - the account has been suspended (Why? I don't know!) so the app is not available for download)

You really do not understand? Have you possibly considered that some iPod owners may not even know what Terminal is?

Anyway I like the app.

I'm not sure why so many of these Apps are coming out, when this is just a simple Unix command from the terminal.

cd /volumes/ipod-name/iPod_Control/Music
cp * /desktop (or whereever)

I've been doing this since any of these things came out, and it's totally FREE
