Product Description:

Fluid is a realtime fluid-dynamics model and rendering engine that uses OpenGL to create the effect of flowing liquid on your screen.
Each launch of Fluid brings a completely new experience and never-before-seen images based on settings that you control. You can change colors, rendering styles, resolution, and many more options via the preferences sheet.
Fluid is donation-ware. If you continue to use it please pay for it, though we aren't going to force you. It takes time to program things like Fluid for OS X and the only way people are going to continue to do it is if they are supported.

What's new in this version:

2.6.1
  • Fixed bug on pre-Panther systems which kept config panel from opening correctly

2.6
  • Themes and ColorMaps menus bug in Panther fixed. Now you can get to items in submenus.
  • Bug in Background Effects (distort/warp) selection fixed. Now the selection sticks.
  • Adding video reflections. Now you can use your iSight or other video feed as the source for the reflection. This is way cool.
  • Pathline rendering returns to Fluid
  • Added flow controls to the liquid properties tab. This allows manual control of the x and y flow of the liquid.
  • Screencapture: You can now save the currently rendered frame by hitting the S key on your keyboard.
  • Small rendering speed improvements
  • New simulated-LIC (Line Integral Convolution) background effect.
  • Theme Server is no longer included in this download (to save bandwidth). It can be downloaded separately.
  • We've been waiting on our German and French translations to come from some friends. We gave up. So those localizations are not in this version but will be returning in a small point release as soon as we get the data. If you are interested, we're always looking for people who can translate Fluid into other languages.

Fluid CommentaryCurrently obsolete. - Version: 2.6.1, 3/29/2008 10:34AM PST

rhky
I’m too late to this game, I guess, and I blame it on Mac | Life http://preview.tinyurl.com/yq9zoh -- what a handy tip!
Fact is, on 10.5.2, clicking on Options button results in System Prefs crash. Too bad. I decided not to rate this, but obviously there is no support for current systems, and there is no Obsolete button on the rating panel. Seems to me that Version Tracker should have a category for this.
PS: I didn’t rate this, but I will give Mac | Life ***** for creative wild goose chases.

Fluid Troubleshooting ReportReally great, but... - Version: 2.6.1, 2/2/2005 12:15AM PST

Macs Pain
...there seems to be no chance to get the background type "desktop background" working. :( When testing it's fine but when the screensaver starts it's not working, it's always a black background. :(

Fluid ReviewVery gorgeous, very cpu-intensive - Version: 2.6.1, 9/25/2004 06:44AM PST

Da Bear
If you guys still haven't tested on a G5 (which I find hard to believe, bc. you've got a dual-processor option in the prefs), I can tell you, it's gorgeous on my dual-2GHz G5 with 23" screen. To my considerable surprise, though, it sucks up CPU cycles like there's no tomorrow. For many of the built-in modules, it starts to skip at medium resolution, and some take forever just to load at highest -- forget any natural-looking motion. So I stick with lower rez and am happy... and it really is... beautiful... and... mesmerising..........
