Product Description:

Xproof is the real-time color previewing and information tool that enables web designers to quickly and easily visualize color appearance across different types of electronic media. Xproof is a stand alone application that works with on-screen color, so it integrates seamlessly with other design applications running on your machine. Use Xproof to quickly and easily create side by side color comparisons for electronic media projects. With Xproof you can:
  • Read color values in a wide variety of formats and spaces
  • Preview image appearance on Windows, broadcast, and sRGB-compliant devices
  • Transform screen images and color values to sRGB for delivery on the web
  • Visualize how image color appears to color deficient viewers
  • Communicate accurate color names using the NBS-ISCC color naming system

What's new in this version:

  • New sRGB color information items - sRGB is the standard color space of the internet, and an accurate predictor of color appearance on the Windows operating system. Since Macintosh monitors are usually configured to match print standards more closely than sRGB or Windows, the RGB value of a color on your screen won't produce the same color on an sRGB-conforming device. The sRGB color information items new to Xproof 1.1 make it easy to duplicate on-screen colors on an sRGB device. Simply copy the sRGB value from Xproof into your HTML or CSS file and your color choice will be accurate represented on sRGB-compliant web browsers. The "to sRGB" screen sample transform converts a portion of the screen to sRGB. The resulting image, dragged or copied from Xproof, can be used in your HTML file for accurate reproduction of screen appearance on sRGB-compliant web browsers. (A growing number of Macintosh web browsers can be configured for sRGB compliance. For example, Macintosh Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher is sRGB-compliant if the "Use ColorSync" option is checked in the "Web Content" preference pane.)
  • New grayscale color information items and screen transforms - Xproof now includes luminance and ICC grayscale color information items, and a luminance screen transform.
  • More liberal evaluation policy - Certain Xproof features are available even after the evaluation period ends. With Xproof 1.1, basic RGB color information items, and the Screen to Screen transform are available to all Xproof users regardless of registration status.
  • Categories in screen sample and color info popup menus - Categories have been added for color information items and screen transforms. In addition, on Mac OS X help tags now describe each option in the color information and screen transform menus.
  • Numerous improvements to color accuracy - This release corrects a color cast problem with the colorblind simulation filters and certain other filters. Also, the numeric range used in the CIE XYZ color information item was incorrect and has been fixed.
  • Qualified with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and CarbonLib 1.6 - Xproof is fully functional with Mac OS 9 and CarbonLib 1.6. It has also been qualified against a final release candidate of Mac OS X 10.2, known as Jaguar.
  • Single application package - Xproof is now distributed as a single application package, which runs under both Classic Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 10.1 or 10.2.

really great app for designers who want to get an idea of how something will look on a PC monitor or mac CRT monitor (if you are on a laptop). It also shows you approximately what something looks like for people with various forms of color blindness. Another feature is a nice color sampler so you can figure out just what color anything on the screen is.
