Product Description:

The XLR8 InterView is a USB cable that accepts either s-video or composite inputs from NTSC, PAL and SECAM video sources. S-video and composite video are common formats used to connect video devices. The vast majority of video output devices have one or both of these connectors. NTSC is the North American and Japanese television standard. PAL and SECAM are used in the rest of the world. EchoFX is offering drivers and application software that allow InterView to be used under Mac OS X. The drivers offer higher quality video, higher frame rates, larger frame sizes, better sound synchronization and approximately 75% less disk consumption when saving movies, than the OS 9 drivers that originally shipped with InterView.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1.2 or higher
  • InterView 2.1

Editor's Notes:

InterView X ReviewWowee! - Version: 2.2.5, 7/16/2003 09:29PM PST

I'd bought this little thingy back when I got my first iMac (1999) and was kinda disappointed in the quality/ stability. After a little grumbling about the lack of a demo I bought the new software. This is good. Reeeeeal good. I wasn't aware that usb could dish up the quality of streams I'm getting! At least w/o out a pretty sizable hardware box. Also when i wrote them today I got near immediate responses (three times!) These guys are class. Their support alone is worth the $25, but as I said... this software rocks.

Oh, and a little sidenote: if you do a little research you can find a haxie that lets you use USB webcams for ichat A/V (albeit stuttery).. and yes it even allows you to use interView hardware as well! :) Lots of fun!

Then you probably don't need the update. As for iChat support.. not likely.. Apple designed it to work mainly with firewire webcams... not USB devices. They might find a way to get it to work, but probably not for a long time.
