ChemDraw ReviewGet a lifetime of spam via every conceivable medium - Version: 10.0, 2/24/2006 07:27AM PST

I bought this a few years ago and although it is functional, it is not much more so than the free alternatives listed below. (Xchemdraw in particular is quite impressive). Also, Latex has a chemistry module that works quite nicely.

I get email spam from this company on an almost weekly basis, as well as junk snail mail sent to BOTH my home and my office (I bought the original on my credit card and thus they got ahold of my home address) and I get disruptive phone calls at my office, all trying to sell me the latest and greatest bloatware.

If you really need this, buy it under the name of someone you hate.

gentle persons,

there several programs which offer, presumably in some aspect restricted, for drawing chemicla formula which run natetively on MacOSX. Beside some JAVA based software, you might want to take a look on xdrawchem. A binary installer, which does not need X11, is available here on versiontracker -> http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20542
To run it you have to install the native version of Trolltech's Qt 3 framework; a minimal installer is available here http://naranja.umh.es/~atg/QtMac334_Mini.zip. After installation of the framework you have XDrawChem running natetively under MacOSX without need of an X11-Server.

ChemDraw ReviewUpdate version doesn't work - Version: 8.0.3, 12/10/2003 02:56PM PST

I'm running 10.3.1 and just followed the directions (rigorously) for installation of the update.

The new program opens, but then it asks for ChemDraw Items. It seems to find the folder by default, but won't accept it when I click "open". It is thus unusable.

I continue to be underwhelmed by this software. At least the old version works. It's PDF compatability seems a bit primitive.

Also, it isn't the only game in town anymore.

Here's a free alternative. It has fewer features, but it is free and works.
