gentle persons,
there several programs which offer, presumably in some aspect restricted, for drawing chemicla formula which run natetively on MacOSX. Beside some JAVA based software, you might want to take a look on xdrawchem. A binary installer, which does not need X11, is available here on versiontracker -> http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20542
To run it you have to install the native version of Trolltech's Qt 3 framework; a minimal installer is available here http://naranja.umh.es/~atg/QtMac334_Mini.zip. After installation of the framework you have XDrawChem running natetively under MacOSX without need of an X11-Server.

I'm running 10.3.1 and just followed the directions (rigorously) for installation of the update.
The new program opens, but then it asks for ChemDraw Items. It seems to find the folder by default, but won't accept it when I click "open". It is thus unusable.
I continue to be underwhelmed by this software. At least the old version works. It's PDF compatability seems a bit primitive.
Also, it isn't the only game in town anymore.
Here's a free alternative. It has fewer features, but it is free and works.

There is just no alternative to this program. The new version has many new features.
Good product

Yes it is expensive, but it is a very good product. I have not used V8, but V7 is good and runs in OS X native. They have hung in there with the Mac over the years. I manage a group of chemists and we use this all the time. And yes it is a plus that it runs on a PC.

here for a good piece of shareware software. There are now no OS X compatible shareware/freeware chemical drawing programs for the Mac. This is overpriced and too poorly supported to be worth the money Cambridgesoft want.

quite poor. Also I payed for it on line and it took me 3 hours on the phone to get them to send me the registration code I had paid for. This simply wasn't worth the expense and headache. Also their screenshot for chemdraw shows features only available with a much more expensive version. This is highly misleading.
I get email spam from this company on an almost weekly basis, as well as junk snail mail sent to BOTH my home and my office (I bought the original on my credit card and thus they got ahold of my home address) and I get disruptive phone calls at my office, all trying to sell me the latest and greatest bloatware.
If you really need this, buy it under the name of someone you hate.
