webEdition CMS ReviewVery Nice - Version: 4.0.0.0, 6/29/2006 07:11AM PST

This is a very nice program that mixes opensource and commercial (paid) modules.

It has decent documentation which you don't get in opensource. Also the company's excellent free app MAMP has done more to enable opensource on the Mac than just about any other product I can think of.

These guys have very close Mac intergration and should not be overlooked when considering CMS. I hope to see PHP5 support soon...

With experience for now more than three years of webEdition I must say: it is a great Content Management System. We use it on Macs - it is well done for Mac-Support. The company also is very active in developping enhancements. In three years time, the system advanced by great leaps, without any problem to the user. The regular updates are fine, the modules add to it and work well.
Compared with Typo3, (Opensource), you save a lot in developping it, if you are not a professional programmer. I personally prefer webedition, as it puts us as a user in the position to fully control what we got, we do not depend on outside sources. I think with Typo3 we would not be able to come to the same result.

If you want to have a look at our site: http://www.niggemann.de

It also shows, that a CMS is not just plain bulletin board but lets you do great design

webEdition CMS Usage TipTry Mambo - Version: 3.4.0.5, 9/21/2005 03:07PM PST

I've been through tons of CMS programs mostly on Linux and the best so far is Mambo. It's also free and you can integrate mambo php-shop for full on e-commerce. (also free) We develop on our sites on this technology now. I won't say implementation was a breeze the first time, but we've installed full websites in under 24 hours using this. an example: voltaicsystems.ca

webEdition CMS Commentarylooks promising BUT... - Version: 3.4.0.2, 7/20/2005 09:36AM PST

one of the ways I decide whether or not a product is worthwhile is to view the product's online support. Not only is this crucial for anything complex (such as installing/configuring a CMS) but it also provides an invaluable opportunity to see what other users are saying about the product.

what will immediately stop me from considering a given product is if I visit their site and there is no support forum OR if there is a support forum and it is "disabled."

This raises a red flag in my mind and gets interpreted as "they are hiding something" or "they don't seem confident in their own product."

Another issue related to webEdition CMS is that while they say it costs $249.00 it really is more like 3 grand to get the "full" version that is comparable to other free CMS systems. so... they really nickle and dime you.

no thanks.

webEdition CMS ReviewNot bad, but no LDU - Version: 3.1.1.6, 9/30/2004 09:59AM PST

Worked reasonably well, but why pay when i have LDU? LDU does everything this does, does it better, and has an open architecture for creating plugins to increase funcationality, and is free.

webEdition CMS ReviewOpensource != always best solution - Version: 3.1.0.1, 8/4/2004 12:54PM PST

Geesh - all these opensource freaks :)

While I agree that there are a lot of open-source and free options out there, webEdition CMS is impressive.

A few of the CMS solutions mentioned in the comments below by others suffer from three major things: they're annoying to install, they do not work well with Mac browsers (or even at all) and they possess a poorly designed user-interface.

wECMS is probably the easiest CMS I've installed, and they provide an automated remote installer for Windows, OS X and Linux. For non-geek types who have a shared PHP/mySQL hosting plan, it's a breeze. I had it up and running on my Win2003 dev server in no time.

These people know what they're doing with cross-browser/platform capatability. I was able to use the web-based interface of this CMS on my Mac perfectly - and almost forgot I was using a web based app.

The interface is elegant and well put together. Again, top-notch and insanely better than a lot of the open-source products.

I've only tried this for a few brief minutes (and unfortunately without some of the modules), but it looks to be a very nice product. I'll definitely be giving it thorough beating to see if it's as nice as it appears to be.

webEdition CMS Commentary$159 against Open Source? - Version: 2.3.2.0, 12/18/2003 07:58AM PST

My CMS of choice is Land Down Under (LDU) It installs well, is XTML compliant and handles everything that is needed. Version 601/602 is very stable.

webEdition functions well, but I don't know about the modules.

Competing against 'free' open-source, the choice is a no brainer. Sorry but that is life.

I prefer PHP-Nuke. Open source and free. All you need is Apache with PHP and a MySQL database. All easily installable. While WebEdition DOES function as advertised, it is simply not as mature a solution as PHP-Nuke. http://phpnuke.org
