Product Description:

Haxial TextEdit is a simple and free text editor that edits plain text files. It can edit text files in Mac, DOS/Windows, and Unix formats. It also includes a Find/Replace function.

NOTE: The appearance of this program is customizable with skins/themes, for more info see http://www.haxial.com/appearance/

What's new in this version:

 • Updated to use new Haxial Appearance Engine.
 • Added a "Sort Selected Lines" command to the Window Menu. If the alt/option key is down, sorts in reverse order.
 • Added option "Exit When Last Document Closed" in Settings. So now you have the option of keeping TextEdit open even when there are no documents open.
 • Second-click an arrow in a Scroll Bar to scroll a whole "page" at a time (like the "Page Up/Down" keys on the keyboard).
 • Clicking in the "background"/track of a Scroll Bar now jumps instantly to that location (like how Sliders behave), instead of scrolling in that direction. This is a much faster way to navigate.
 • Second-click (or control-click) in the background/track of a scrollbar to scroll a "page" in that direction. This also works on the arrows.
 • Display hot keys in menus.
 • Changed the inactive outline of selected text from 1 to 2 pixels thick for improved visibility, especially when using the Find command (thanks G).
 • Fixed a problem with opening files on a read-only device such as a CD.
 • Fixed a problem with opening a file that was already open.
 • MacOS: Added "New Window" command to the File menu in the Mac menubar. Don't forget Command-N also works.
 • Windows: Added "New Window" command to the context menu that shows when you second-click the TextEdit button in the Windows task bar. Don't forget Control-N also works.

Haxial TextEdit CommentaryBring Back the Windows Format - Version: 1.700, 11/26/2004 01:49PM PST

This is the first upgrade I installed since 1.450 and I uninstalled it after opening the first file in it. The loss of writing to the windows or mac or unicode format was the reason I used this program. While it still does the job well for unicode, the loss of the ability to read or save files in any of the three formats in any platform was what really attracted me to this product.

Luckly we have 1450 backed up and I went back to it. Thanks for making such a great program, but could you leave the old versions up (at least 1450)?

Argy1, if you'd
read
the 'Generic Documentation.pdf' included with HT, you'd find that you can create a 'Appearances' folder in the 'Haxial TextEdit1630-Mac' folder, then go here: http://www.customize.org/list/haxial and download either of these: 'Mac OS X 10.3.4' or 'Mac OSexy 10.3', put them in the 'Appearances' folder, pick it in the 'Settings' menu item, and have your Aqua theme and eat it too. (They even mention themes in the Product Description here.) It might be easier if they included them both with the archive... (hint)

I do think it would be nice to have the
option
of turning off the menu-in-window-title-bar in the Settings (? should be
Preferences
for us Mac types ?) menu item, but the program is great enough for me to live with it.

Then again, would be nice to turn it (menu-in-window-title-bar) on occasionally in other Mac apps (as part of Mac GUI), much as I hate WinDoze™. :-)
