Brother HL-12xx CommentaryOnly for USB Connections - Version: 1.51, 4/14/2004 04:14PM PST

It's not clear from the website, but this new driver is apparently only for HL-12xx model printers which are directly connected to a Mac via USB. The PPD file for printing to the HL-1270N via ethernet has not been updated since it was first released (still v1.00). So don't bother downloading and installing this unless your Brother printer is connected directly. The website gives no clues about what has changed in this release...

Brother HL-12xx ReviewHL-1240 across AirPort Extreme - Version: 1.30, 11/30/2003 01:36AM PST

I concede that Brother printers are not Airport Extreme friendly. It worked flawlessly on Jaguar, then directly connected to a Panther Mac worked ok. It even worked briefly ok across Airport Extreme, and then stopped working altogether. This is a printer to stay away from. Looks like it will be trashed and I will buy a direct USB printer on my desk and forget about airport connections.

Brother HL-12xx CommentaryOK, nm my previous message... - Version: 1.30, 11/14/2003 01:32PM PST

It does work in Panther, as others have said, but I had to do an Archive and Install to do it. Deleting all relevant preference files etc from Jaguar and reinstalling the driver didn't do it alone.
