Why 2 versions on download page?? - Version: 2.5, 1/5/2008 12:29AM PST

Why are there 2 versions (with the same version number) on the download page? The only difference seems to be the icons......???

I like it

It is fast. Just right tool for a quick peek. Slideshow works pretty well also. It just seems that if you drop a folder, it goes to slideshow mode, and when you drop a bunch of separate images, it opens them as separate images. Well... I can live with that. Caching seems to work nicely, though with hires images there are some responsiveness issues.
I wish it would show also embedded color profile in info window.
CMYK are shown negative, but that is quite common I guess...

Basically I just want an image viewer to which icon I can drop images and folders. This seems to get it almost right. Why not let me move to one image to next with arrow key immediately when bunch of images / a folder is dropped to app? Also, I would like to be able to zoom in and scroll when in full screen/slideshow (and zoom setting to keep from one image to next). But this thing is fast and generally no hassle. Seems that full screen and slideshow modes are almost the same, but that is ok.

I wish there was a way to disable the text info that pops up in the top left corner when in full screen mode. otherwise, I would use this.

I liked PictureViewer for OS9, and am now looking for an OSX version. Mostly, I like the one-window-per-picture-openned, which few options support.
JView does that, and adds some very nice bonuses (such as drag-scroll)
However, there are two things that make it not _quite_ usable for me:
1) I want to be able to reorder the window list easily (if I click on a buried window, I don't want to just bring that window to the front... I want it to become the top window in the stack for next time I cycle through all the pictures)
2) Cycling through pictures is a pain. it's tab/shift-tab in PictureViewer, but it's cmd+ and cmd- in JView. Not only does that require both hands on a powerbook, but cmd+ requires the shift-key, making it hard to rapidly switch from forward- to backwards- cycling, and vice versa. I'd love to see these keys configurable, like the prev/next-in-same-window options.
Another difference with pictureviewer is that in pictureviewer, if you reopen an image that's already open, pictureviewer just jumps to that already-openned picture. JView instead opens it a second time. I'm not sure I care about this difference, but I'm definitely used to the pictureviewer version.

BEWARE - don't use this to manipulate original photos - Version: 1.9.6, 6/5/2003 05:49AM PST

I started using this program as a replacement for the Windows software Irfanview (which is the BEST free image viewer manipulator EVER). It seemed like a viable image viewer for many months until my wife started using it with her digital camera pictures.. We set it to "Resize to Fit the Screen" option thinking it was only for viewing. My wife went through a bunch of photos off the camera, rotating them and saving them with the original filename. It wasn't until we published them online that we noticed all the pictures we rotated were shrunk from 1704x2272 to 868x651. Before I hit the save the image clearly states its size as 1704x2272, only AFTER it is saved does it tell you it just reduced the size of the image. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T USE IT TO MANIPULATE AND RESAVE YOUR ORIGINALS, its a pretty good image viewer.

hombre
jpeg that Preview could not open. Trying to open it in GraphicConverter caused GraphicConverter to crash. JView opened it with no problem. After I resaved it in JView, the other programs could open it too. Cool.
