Product Description:

DEVONthink is a knowledge management solution and freeform database for everyone who needs to store a lot of text or image contents, for example journalists, editors, writers, developers, scientists, students and many others. Possible uses are, among many others, storing and retrieving information, writing new articles, managing large amounts of texts, replacing notepad applications and freeform databases, and collecting knowledge or images (theoretically unlimited size of knowledge base, ideal for scientists or developers).
DEVONthink handles many kinds of data like RTF and PDF documents, plain texts, images, source codes, bookmarks, structured data (XML), websites (HTML) or complete documentations and references. Without the need for indexing, DEVONthink fully or semi-automatically classifies elements, lists similar contents and words immediately using fuzzy algorithms, finds and compares text and even images, summarises texts intelligently and provides high performance concordance tools. As a Cocoa application it's perfectly integrated into Mac OS X including it's own services for storing and summarising text clippings, has advanced text editing facilities including rulers and provides a Finder-like interface with contextual menus, different views and drag & drop.
Finally DEVONthink is the first product based on our powerful and language independent DEVONtechnology which is suitable for a wide range of applications. Due to the nature of this technology, please note that results (e.g. of searching, classifying or comparing) get better the more contents you have stored in your knowledge base and the better you group your contents. You are "teaching" DEVONthink about what belongs together and what not.

What's new in this version:

Obviously the previous reviewer has a problem. Click on his name and see the drivel he writes. Obviously the dude hasn't used DT. Anyhow, DT is simply the most powerful program on the Mac for researchers. Check out there website and forums and judge for yourself. I personally prefer the Pro version myself.

DEVONthink Personal Edition CommentaryNo confidence from the company - Version: 2.0pb5, 7/30/2009 08:25AM PST

Here is what I think when a company continually puts out one beta after another. The company has no confidence in its product and is trying to pawn it off to the public while being able to fall back on "Hey! We said it was beta!" DEVON: If its any good, release it. If it is junk, stop using the public to do your testing for you.

All the features worth looking at are quickly becoming freely available in other existing technologies, not to mention the handful of necessary features DTP lacks. If I wanted a glorified Finder I'd turn to Path Finder. That said, DTP is hardly even glorified as the Spotlight criteria capabilities are rather sad. Oh well.
