It's a notepad, outliner, scrapbook manager, information manager, freeform database, archive, image database and bookmark manager - your personal supplementary brain.   • NEW DEVONthink uses the new "unified toolbar & title" look of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, look of horizontal/vertical split view resemble Mail 2.0. Can be turned off in the preferences.
  • NEW DEVONthink is able to import iChat 3 logs (.ichat files) and imports iChat and Yahoo Messenger logs now as rich text.
  • NEW It's possible to drag data without file representations (e.g. URLs or clippings) to the Dock icon (Mac OS X 10.4 only).
  • NEW Possibility to search for items with a specific label and/or state added to seach window.
  • NEW Option-clicking on words in PDF/PostScript documents opens a drawer showing all documents containing the word, too. Note: Selecting rectangles is still possible by option-clicking and dragging the mouse.
  • NEW "Go > First/Last Document" menu and toolbar items to go to the first or last document of a group.
  • NEW Contextual menu commands for capturing frames, pages or web archives and for updating an already captured web archive.

  • Fixed Services submenu of contextual menus was not always immediately available (Mac OS X 10.4 only).
  • Fixed More reliable recognition of command-clicked Internet addresses in text documents.
  • Fixed Display of PostScript/EPS documents under Mac OS X 10.4.
  • Fixed DEVONthink uses its own wildcard implementation to circumvent bugs in the Mac OS X Cocoa framework.
  • Fixed Export of RTF files could fail if the system language was Japanese. Note: Exporting of RTFD files or "File > Export > as Text/RTF/RTFD/Word" were not effected by this bug.
  • Fixed Minor glitch of Word export.
  • Fixed Multiple spaces of names were automatically removed.
  • Fixed Minor bugs and interface glitches.

Obviously the previous reviewer has a problem. Click on his name and see the drivel he writes. Obviously the dude hasn't used DT. Anyhow, DT is simply the most powerful program on the Mac for researchers. Check out there website and forums and judge for yourself. I personally prefer the Pro version myself.

Here is what I think when a company continually puts out one beta after another. The company has no confidence in its product and is trying to pawn it off to the public while being able to fall back on "Hey! We said it was beta!" DEVON: If its any good, release it. If it is junk, stop using the public to do your testing for you.

All the features worth looking at are quickly becoming freely available in other existing technologies, not to mention the handful of necessary features DTP lacks. If I wanted a glorified Finder I'd turn to Path Finder. That said, DTP is hardly even glorified as the Spotlight criteria capabilities are rather sad. Oh well.
