tester for this program, so I'd like to mention that there is a read-me included in the download. The readme lists the limitations and abilities. The limitations are imposed by the boundaries of Apple Scripting. Everyone should take note of the following quote, and remember, this isn't a program for easy hacking into others folders! "Owner only! Note that you can only change privileges for items you own (unless you are the root Unix superuser). This appears to be a Unix restriction. (AppleScript will actually let you change an item's owner property even if you don't own it, but you will find it doesn't make any difference to your actual access, and doesn't persist through a Finder restart.)" This application works as it's designed to do. So far I haven't had it crash once, and it has worked fine allowing my family to share our photo and music collection.

think this is my first star. I couldn't get this droplet to recognize any user other than root. I took a look at the script itself and it appears that will not allow any changes. I had one spectacular crash when I tried using Privilege Processor in deeper levels of my directory (other that the desktop) to insure that I was the owner. The crash involved an inability for the screen to draw correctly among other things. One of my few hard reboots under OS X.
Privilege Processor does not work with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (and may not be fully compatible with 10.3 Panther). I have done some initial investigation into solutions, but haven't completely resolved the problems.
Due to other priorities, I am unlikely to finish this work any time soon. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Note that Privilege Processor is open source and licensed under the GPL, so any AppleScript developer can have a go at modifying it. I am happy to share the work I have already done with anyone interested - contact me via my homepage.
