Doesn't recognize my MS mouse

I got this driver and bought a microsoft mouse in the hopes of fixing OS X's awful mouse acceleration problems. It seemed to work fine on a late-08 MacBook (where I really don't care because the trackpad is fine), but on a MacMini (2009), it doesn't recognize my mouse as an MS mouse! Color me disappointed.
Works well for my limited needs and no problems in 10.5.7

I'm using just the IntelliPoint 7.0 software with the very simple 5-button IntelliMouse USB. Having this software is useful for me in 3 ways:
1. Expanded button function assignments, going beyond OS X's limited choices
2. The IntelliPoint ("accelerated") pointer speed option. Move faster = go much further
3. Accelerated scrolling
The software does all three things very well, and without any problems or conflicts with my system.
However, it would be nice to see options for "chording," using 2 buttons at once for additional functionality.

When upgrading from FF 3.0.11 to 3.5, the intellipoint software only controls FF 3.5's forward and back from the Global profile, not from an added profile specific to FireFox.

If you're using just MS mouse (not keyboard), you can download just the mouse software at:

6.2.2 does not Power Save correctly

I recently bought Microsoft's Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and installed IP 6.2.2. The mouse is working fine but I found that the drivers do not allow my iMac to power save correctly. Firstly, the display does not dim after a period of inactivity and the computer does not enter sleep mode automatically. I've gone into the Bluetooth preferences and unchecked the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" option. However, the computer still does not go to sleep with the wireless mouse paired. I hope Microsoft can address this issue in the next driver update.

Microsoft bluetooth notebook presenter mouse 8000 slow tracking / pointer speed - Version: 6.2.2, 12/20/2007 12:03AM PST

I'm using a Microsoft Presenter 8000 Bluetooth mouse on my Macbook Pro running Leopard (10.5.1). I use the Microsoft Intellimouse software so I can map my side buttons and because I can't stand OS X's mouse acceleration with an actual mouse. I have the mouse tracking speed maxed out but the tracking or pointer speed is too slow for me. I upgraded the intellipoint software to mac version 6.2.2 (released on december 17th, 2007). The device is detected and "connected" but not shown as paired at the bluetooth hardware preferences menu. When the dongle is inserted in a USB port, it doesn't make a difference.
I also noted something strange: when the mouse is all set up and "working", I go straight to the keyboard and mouse hardware preferences menu and modify the tracking speed to about the fourth of fifth line and it works just fine! However when I close this menu and go back to work with any other application, the tracking speed returns to its sluggish movement.
I tried connecting a friend's Microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000, and the bluetooth preferences menu shows it as both paired and connected - and the tracking speed works fine for me. But I bought this expensive 8000 presenter model only to find myself disappointed.
I wonder if this is related to the "connected but not paired" issue? How can this be resolved?

Why does MS make *you* do the work? I have an MS mouse. I want the new software. How do I just, you know.... *download the new software*?
Here's the cherry on top: I go to the System Pref pane for MS Intellipoint, click the "you may never notice it or think to click it" green arrow to check my software-update settings, and I do indeed have checked for it to look for new software "periodically," whatever that means. Their own software doesn't even see the availability of the new software. No update notice is pushed to me.
Thing is, I really like the hardware -- I've owned 5 MS mice, they're great.
Sigh.
