Product Description:

A suite of Unix command-line tools and a server designed to remotely administer the file systems of multiple Unix machines. For Mac OS X, there's also a graphical interface.

At its core, radmind operates as a tripwire. It is able to detect changes to any managed filesystem object, e.g. files, directories, links, etc. However, radmind goes further than just integrity checking: once a change is detected, radmind can optionally reverse the change.

Each managed machine may have its own loadset composed of multiple, layered overloads. This allows, for example, the operating system to be described separately from applications.

Loadsets are stored on a remote server. By updating a loadset on the server, changes can be pushed to managed machines.

The radmind 0.9.3 Mac OS X installer includes version 0.8.1 of the Radmind Assistant, a Cocoa frontend to the radmind commandline tools.

What's new in this version:

Tools:
  • fsdiff can handle negative objects of different types
  • Fixed Special file stat command on server
  • Fixed special AppleFile support on server
  • Changed the lcreate -L option to -l
  • Fixed a bug in the syslog code
  • Added an argument check to lcksum
  • Added argument checking to lcreate
  • Added cheksum verifications to lcreate with -n
  • Fixed a bunch of timeout issues in the server and in connect.c
  • Fixed the connection accepting code
  • Added more error reporting in retr.c
  • Updated copyright information
Radmind Assistant:
  • Enhanced abilities in Updated and Loadset Creator:
    * Support for user authentication when uploading.
    * Option to store loadsets as empty files on server.
    * Option to select a transcript to upload instead of having to create one. This is useful when uploading negative transcripts.
    * Option to force removal of user-defined flags, such as locks on files.
  • Fixed bug causing Server Manager to crash when a config file line contained an unexpected number of arguments.
  • Enhanced contextual menus in transcript drawer of Server Manager.
  • Create /var/radmind, /var/radmind/client and /var/radmind/cert if they do not exist.
  • Fixed an exception raised when new client was added to config before any command files were created.
  • Help menu now directs user to http://www.radmind.org
  • Changed way argument lists for radmind tools are created.
  • User can now select other text editors with which to view radmind transcripts. The editor is set in the preference panel.
  • Updater and Loadset Creator now echo the commandline equivalent of the step they are executing, so a user can learn the options.
  • MD5 checksum: b112c44df62aaa3a385578efe1c16c97

Radmind Reviewreally GREAT software! - Version: 1.2.1, 8/17/2004 03:26PM PST

i've used this for 7 months now now to deploy our software to our lab-machines. it took some time to learn in the beginning, but after that it worked like advertised. it makes live so much easier.

Tyaris Major: it doesn't delete stuff on the server-side so you can downgrade to any former state of your system. i am lucky as i didn't have problems with the portability so far... it works in our lab with 1 ibook g3, 1 ibook g4, 12 emacs g4, 9 (different) powermac g4 and 8 powermac g5.

I've been using radmind for a while now and it's made my life so much easier. I can manage any number of clients without a second thought. Best part is, this great product is free, has good documentation and a helpful mailing list.
