Hi,
Make sure you're using the dmg from the official website which was updated a few minutes ago. The previous one contained an other file which broke the POP3 code.

Have you tried GyazMail ?!
What prevents me from using it are essentially two missing functions: a working spam filter (external spam filters don't filter it all - Apple Mail.app still has a lot of work to do, even for my Gmail account!) and S/MIME support (that's what standard mail clients in the corporate world use, so I want to use it, too!).
Viewing HTML e-mail would be nice, too - but that's not essential.
