Wow, this sure beats spending $180 on BBEdit. It has built-in color-coding for program code just like BBEdit has, which is the main reason I've liked BBEdit for editing HTML in the past. The only downside to the color coding is that it doesn't differentiate between code types, so parts of my HTML docs are displayed color-coded even though they're not HTML code. But who cares when I get to save $180? Five überstars for being such a dang sweet freeware app!
Eh...

Supports syntax coloring and Jump menu which lets you jump between subroutines/functions/methods/etc. which is nice.. Also has option to split editor windows which is very handy - programs such as TextWrangler seem to be missing this.
Not bad.. But interface is a little weird. Also english development has apparently been stopped.. Doh.

star if the "add new file" in the FTP folder menus would work. also would get another star for making the tools menu a floating palette. for now i gotta stick with BBEdit.

I could use it full time. BBEdit (Lite also) has an auto-backup function that is indispencable for me, more important that color-coding. Add that and you got me.

it much, as it does what it says pretty well, but I'm afraid I can't share the enthusiasm of the other reviewers. My opinion might go up with PHP syntax support. Without that, not very useful to me. Nonetheless, quite capable, and free, which is always appreciated. I'll keep my eye out.

software supports various encodings when BBEdit still doesn't. Easy configuration of keywords and syntax styling via "Mode Preference" from the "Mi" menu ("New Mode" and "New Mode (import) " menu items would be better inside the "Mode Preference" submenu than inside the "Option" menu in my opinion...). To be true : easy configuration of *everything* for each mode. And *eveything* is the whole set of options I can expect from an advanced text editor. Regular expressions can be used in the settings and even to perform a search. Recursive search/replace is also possible. Line numbering seems to be perfectly correct. No PHP mode at the moment but it shouldn't be too difficult to implement: creating a new mode by importing the html one and adding some php keywords... Syntax coloring could be faster and better. Associating a specific encoding to a mode will only have some effect on new files. It would be better if the encoding set within the mode preference window was also the default encoding used to open a file. Excellent software. Since Pepper's death this is the best text editor "a la mac" under Mac OS X for my needs of non us ascii and non utf worker.
