Chicken of the VNC Commentarychicken of the vnc - Version: 2.0b4, 6/3/2008 08:08AM PST

I have been using Chicken of the VNC for a year or so now. Works great.

I just read about a faster VNC client - JollysFastVNC 0.96.30 and in the few minutes I have been using it, it is faster than Chicken.

Chicken of the VNC ReviewWorks great for me - Version: 2.0b4, 5/30/2008 11:29AM PST

This is the best FREE VNC client I've tried. I'm connecting from an iMac Duo Core running Leopard 10.5.2 to 4 WinXP computers running the free version of RealVNC Server 4.1.2 thru a Cisco VPN tunnel and cable internet. I can connect to all 4 remote servers simultaniously too! This works much better than Remote Desktop Connection.

Chicken of the VNC Troubleshooting ReportWhen will the bugs be fixed, when will be release the new version (if any)? - Version: 2.0b4, 11/9/2007 07:11AM PST

Many bugs have been pointed out (see forum) and still no new version. The current Chicken of the VNC is still 2.0b4 and is 2 years old.
Does it mean that this program is not maintained any more?
For me the most important bug is the keyboard problem:
For non-US keyboard, the mapping is completely messy.

Chicken of the VNC Usage TipWorks poorly with TightVNC server - Version: 2.0b4, 9/18/2007 10:24AM PST

This App works particularly poorly with TightVNC server for unknown reasons.

Basically, the screen doesn't update for long periods or updates at erratic intervals for
unknown reasons.

Chicken of the VNC ReviewStill a good VNC viewer, BUT... - Version: 2.0b4, 7/20/2007 05:41PM PST

CotVNC is still a good product, but has quite a few issues at this point... which are mounting steadily due to lack of updates.

* Connection management frequently loses settings and even entire connection setups if you click the wrong sequence of buttons.
* Restarting a remote machine more often than not will completely hang CotVNC unless you quit CotVNC fast enough
* Connecting to servers with more current implementations of VNC often are choppy and don't update consistently
* Using CotVNC with the VNC support built-in to Tiger can cause CotVNC updates to stop happening and/or the VNC background process on the remote machine to hang if the viewing process is continued for too long (likely a memory leak on one or both ends). This has been reported to Apple as an ARD issue, but is unknown whether the ARD side has been resolved.

Chicken of the VNC Troubleshooting Reportcannot get this to run on mac pb g4 OS10.3.9 - Version: 2.0b4, 4/9/2007 02:54PM PST

This works just fine, and is extremely useful, on my intel MacBook pro, OS 10.4.9, but I cannot get it to run on my mac pb g4 under OS 10.3.9. It starts as far as the window to enter where to connect, and then it suddenly vanishes. I would appreciate suggestions as to how to fix this.

Chicken of the VNC Troubleshooting ReportBug fix anytime soon? - Version: 2.0b4, 3/30/2007 01:54PM PST

Great program, use it every day with OSXvnc and the newer Vine Server on some clients.

I'm wondering if there is a new update scheduled anytime; it's been over a year since 2.0b4 has been released, and there's a few minor bugs that I notice.

Sometimes when a connection fails, I retry a 2nd time and it works. When the 2nd attempt fails, sometimes a CotVNC quit / restart works.

The VNC Login window listing my Servers on the left is the best I've seen in the free programs I've tried out in the past - very handy. But, when I have to cringe when I use the + and - buttons because sometimes it just does some real funky things. One problem that I've actually tried to track down in the com.geekspiff.chickenofthevnc.plist file is a "permanent" server that I can't delete. I have tried removing the plist file (which I think holds all of the servers) and relaunching CotVNC, and it appears to start out with a blank server list except for this mysterious permanent server, which I still cannot delete.

Anyway, very good program otherwise, and it'd be nice to get some more frequent updates!

Chicken of the VNC ReviewFairly basic feature set.. works ok - Version: 2.0b4, 2/13/2007 03:46PM PST

Would be great if it could lower the resolution (change to Greyscale or B/W) like TB2 for slow connections.

Chicken of the VNC ReviewWorks great! - Version: 2.0b4, 12/12/2006 03:18PM PST

I'm using Chicken VNC to connect my iMac G5 and my brand new macbook laptop. All other GUI vnc clients have failed, but this one works!

I'm connecting over Bonjour.

Just make sure to enable Remote Desktop in your firewall system prefs, and everything will work fine!

Looking forward to more polish to this app.
