Product Description:

Finally, a location manager for Mac OS X! Location X brings the wildly popular Location Manager functionality from Mac OS 9 to Apple's latest and greatest operating system, Mac OS X. Location X allows you to, with a single click, change network, time zone, email settings, default printer, run AppleScripts and more all at once.

Macintosh portable users who travel between different locations often have to reconfigure their Macs for use at home, school, the office, the hotel, the east coast office, China (you get the picture). Configuring Location X to do this for you is easy using its intuitive and elegant Aqua interface. Now using your laptop in different places is a snap.

Location X was designed to allow third parties to develop plug-ins that will allow you to change even more settings than those provided in the Location X package. A new plug-in development kit allows third-parties to easily create plug-ins that extend the functionality of Location X. In the mean time, you can use Location X's built in plugins that let you change your network configuration, Apple Mail and Entourage settings, time zone, sound volume, default printer, run AppleScripts and shell scripts, and change QuickTime connection speed. Check back frequently for new plug-ins!

What's new in this version:

  • New Entourage plug-in
  • New Shell Script plug-in

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Location X Troubleshooting ReportVersion 2.5.4 does not work on G3 iBook - Version: 2.5.4, 11/20/2009 11:01AM PST

mypointofview
I had to install the previous version, but guess what, the installer would not let me do this, saying "there is nothing to be installed" LOL. So fortunately being familiar with the Mac I went into the deep folder structure of "Library/Frameworks" and did it myself. I used the tool "Pacifist" to open the installer and get the two parts out there. One is the Framework and the other the actuall application.

While all is cool with this app, this experience shows a level of amateurism on the side of the developer. At least the system requirements could stated that the application needs a G4 Mac at minimum. This would have saved me 30 minutes of time that I could have spent much nicer...

Location X ReviewWorks great on 10.4.7! - Version: 2.5.2, 8/9/2006 03:05PM PST

Works great for me.
I only miss AutoLocate for non-AirPort networks: at work I don't have a wireless network, but the assigned IP address could be used instead.

Location X ReviewWorks Great for ME - Version: 2.5.1, 6/20/2006 06:08PM PST

I suspect that something else besides Location X is causing the problems of the other commenters. I'm using Location X 2.5.1 on a PBTi running Tiger 10.4.6. Works flawlessly.
