SMB Browse CommentaryDear Sgt Baxter,… - Version: 0.71, 5/2/2002 11:55AM PST

thanks for your insight re: port 453. I have the same issue as "Tyaris Major" - many, many PC's but nothing *at all* shows up. Don't know about the rest of you, but I have *NO* control over server settings, can Gordon add an option to allow me to control the port number it uses? Are there any work arounds to paranoid network security people who reject port 453?

when unmounting a share, it unmounts two of my three HD partitions and my internal DVD drive, too, which has made me restart my machine to get them back.

can't see shares your firewall is likely set to deny packets from port 453. Simply allow packets from 453 to enter from your WINS server and you'll see the shares. Simple. Of course, for some reason I can't get onto shares I have access to. Strange. What's up with not remembering settings from session to session? Fix it! ;)

same problem others are having with nothing showing up in the list. I figured out what caused it. You'll never believe this, but the problem occurs when the app is on a partition other than my boot partition. If it's on the boot partition, it works fine. If I run it from any other partition, it lists absolutely nothing in its outline view. Bizarre...

no cigar, sorry. It connects just fine to all of the official big NT servers, but student shares (which of course show up fine on the Windoze side) don't show up at all with SMB Browse. The names of the student machines show up, but clicking the triangle doesn't show the individual shares at all. Still needs lots of work. Once it's finished and working, it'll be GREAT!

needs a bit of work but very handy as is. Very easy to use for someone with a UNIX/Linux and samba background.
