MaxMenus CommentarySHOUT-OUT for an upgrade! - Version: 1.5.1, 11/24/2009 11:38PM PST

As a long-time devotee of MaxMenus, and after looking over recent comments here, I decided to track down the developer, Mat Caughron, and appeal for the code to be released so that the Mac community could make this wonderful utility Snow-Leopard compatible. Mat got back to me in less than 24 hours, and suggested that he would look into doing the upgrade himself. Yay!

However, he did ask if I could find any one who could do a website for the new version. I'm not the guy, but I'm hoping there might be someone out there who loves MaxMenus as much as I do, and can help with that. If you can offer some help, or know someone who can, please email me at ipsydsurv"AT"me.com and I'll pass along Mat's details.

Come on MaxMenus fans! If we want to keep using this fab launcher, the ball is in OUR court!

MaxMenus CommentaryWill MM work with Snow Leopard - Version: 1.5.1, 8/12/2009 06:31AM PST

Since Proterian is no more, is there any chance that the source code will be (re) licensed, made open source or whatever, so that it can made compatible with Snow Leopard, etc.

Indeed I am saddened to see Proterian fade away...

MaxMenus CommentaryProteron is apparently no more. - Version: 1.5.1, 8/9/2009 09:38AM PST

Visiting the Proteron website will take you to a page where you can download MaxMenus and LiteSwitch. Registration codes are provided for both. My assumption is that the two applications are no longer being developed (no update since 2007), but the developers were nice enough to provide download links and registration codes.

MaxMenus is an excellent application that I have been using for more years than I can recall. It has (and still is) one of the first applications I install on a new computer. My guess is that, eventually, it will not work on a future iteration of Mac OS X, and that will be a shame. I hope someone can pick up this application and resume development. If I were a developer, I would gladly take it on.

MaxMenus is great. It is unmistakable true.

I've been using MaxMenus for years and it's superb in use in every way.
MaxMenus has much functions that are farther stronger and more abundant than FinderPop.
And, it is a very excellent tool far used easily.
Therefore, it is wrong to compare MaxMenus with FinderPop.

A lot of friends of me and me strongly support keeping the version improvement of MaxMenus through all eternity.

MaxMenus CommentarySame like FinderPop? - Version: 1.5.1, 4/28/2009 02:29PM PST

I'm kind of wondering - isn't this pretty much the same like FinderPop? What makes this worth $30 when FinderPop is free?

MaxMenus Troubleshooting ReportFound a problem w/ MM - Version: 1.5.1, 12/23/2008 05:00AM PST

MaxMenus is absolutely terrific and it just got a plug in a Mac magazine. HOWEVER, I just discovered that it can arbitrarily, on its own, assign a hot-key to some function. For about 5 years, I have been dealing with a problem where I can't use the shift key to get a specific capital letter because it has been assigned to activate some app. MaxMenus was the culprit.

MM is a must have for me -- glad my problem has been solved.

The developer ought to fix the bad links on his website.

MaxMenus CommentaryMaxMenus AWOL? - Version: 1.5.1, 12/16/2008 02:45PM PST

I attempted to get more information from the developer's site (http://proteron.portcode.com/) about MaxMenus but all but one (download page) of the website's pages denies access. No information regarding contact, tech support, release notes - nada.

Doesn't look good.

MaxMenus Troubleshooting ReportFilemaker databases have stopped working with MaxMenus - Version: 1.5.1, 4/14/2008 07:43AM PST

My Filemaker databases have stopped working with MaxMenus.

I upgraded to 1.5.1, but this did not help.

When I click on a Filemaker database in MaxMenus to open it, Filemaker opens, but the database does not open.

I have to use the Filemaker Open menu to open the database.

I've loved the program for a long time, but I can't figure out this bug.

Run Home Slow
well, like all the others, i've had all troubles with Leopard... i'm just using the empty menu bar for menu shortcuts and now it's back to normal with 1.5.1... was using free butler since now... 'cause it's free, but MaxMenus offers bigger icon for menus.... i'm stil here for now 1.5.1 rocks :-)
