Product Description:

wKiosk is the ideal solution for Mac OS X to present web-based content (HTML, Flash, PDF, videos, etc.) and applications in a safe and stable way on public access terminals with or without access to the Internet. You can use wKiosk to individually restrict access to Web sites, the operating system, system settings, and applications. Your computer will be protected against any manipulation from the time you boot until you shut it down. Since wKiosk is built with Apple Safari Engine, you will benefit from all the features that this modern browser has to offer (Flash, QuickTime, Real Audio, multimedia formats, etc). We developed wKiosk with the intention to create a browser which provides the same functionality and ease of use as Safari, but which, at the same time, adds maximum security and protection from user interference. wKiosk is completely customizable, you can configure and adjust it to exactly fit the requirements of your public access terminals.

wKiosk CommentaryWill not display RSS feeds consistently - Version: 5.1, 4/16/2008 08:08AM PST

I keep trying wKiosk thinking it will be the solution for my touch screen kiosks. I like the security features like hiding the dock and menubar, and restarting in case of a crash. However wKiosk will NOT display RSS feeds consistently, even though it is built on the 'Safari engine'. wKiosk cannot render feeds starting with feed:// nor can it render XML that does not have style information associated with it and just displays one massive block of text. These are RSS feeds that display fine in Safari, Firefox, and iCab. Maybe wKiosk is simply adhering to standards, but like I said, Safari handles the feeds just fine.

As it stands I will continue to use iCab for my kiosks. Granted wKiosk is geared for kiosk use, while iCab is a browser first, with a kiosk mode addition. iCab kiosk mode is simple and straight forward to set up and displays RSS feeds as expected. With a few settings on the kiosk user account and help from a couple other utilities, I can lock my kiosks down pretty good. If you don't need to display various RSS feeds, wKiosk might be worth considering.

The price is too high, when you can get FireFox,NetScape, and Safari for free, that do just as good .

    wKiosk ReviewExcellent - Version: 5.0.1, 9/27/2007 08:05AM PST

Having looked at several alternatives (iCab's Kiosk mode, various Firefox mods and others) this did the best job, and was almost the quickest to set up. We need to run Kiosks to print registration forms during induction weeks, and this is the only tool that handles printing sensibly.
