Product Description:

Spellbinder runs the update_prebinding command line tool. I made this to make using this command easier than running it from the Terminal whenever I needed to do it, such as when disk images begin to mount slowly or if I desire to free up RAM.

I have included some options in Spellbinder that I think are handy.

The first option is to save your administrator password to disk, since this is saved as plain text it is not recommended to be used for security reasons.

The second option is to run in debug mode. This runs through the entire process but doesn't actually prebind the files. This has the benefit of freeing the RAM that the usual prebinding does, without the hard disk wear and tear.

The final option is to quit Spellbinder when it is done, a self explanatory option.

Spellbinder Commentarywhile i haven't… - Version: 1.0, 6/16/2002 12:27PM PST

run spellbinder, i've run xoptimize (many times) and speedmeup lite or pro or whatever it was, and i would like to note here that while i never saw a noticeable speed increase after running either of those prebinding updaters, i did see a dramatic decrease in the launch times of my apps the first time i pasted "sudo update_prebinding -verbose -force -root /" into the Terminal, let it chug for about ten minutes, and restarted. i don't want to twist the arm of anybody who wants to avoid the Terminal, but i think it is a good idea to know what your options are, and that some of them might work better than others.

a limitation of A.S.S. otherwise I would use the security framework. Icon is a fist with an energy pulse coming from it.

you pjmurphy. Spellbinder works okay for me. Two gripes tho: #1: I'd prefer it if Spellbinder used the Security framework to obtain a password (and used the keychain instead of storing it itself), and #2: I don't understand what the icon is.
