Product Description:

Recently rated 5 mice by MacUser UK and 4.5 mice by Macworld, Default Folder X attaches a toolbar to your Open and Save dialogs in any OS X-native application. The toolbar gives you fast access to various folders and commands. You just click on the buttons to go to your favorite and recently used folders, manage the folders and files shown in the list, and make changes to your settings.

Default Folder also adds the ability to see zoomable previews in Open dialogs and to save Spotlight comments and OpenMeta tags for documents in the Save As dialog, while you're saving them.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved Default Folder X's tracking of recently used folders.

  • Corrected a bug which could cause files to be saved to the wrong folder when using column view.

  • Worked around a bug in Snow Leopard that caused folder switching and rebound to fail when a mounted server's disk had the same name as a folder on your startup drive (such as Users, Applications or Library).

  • Default Folder X no longer tries to resolve aliases to offline servers when creating preview images for files and folders.

  • Fixed a problem in which Default Folder X's controls did not hide themselves when an options dialog was invoked from an Open or Save As dialog (Adobe Fireworks CS3 and other applications were affected).

  • Eliminated the white square in the menubar that sometimes appeared where Default Folder X's icon was supposed to be.

  • Fixed a situation in which Default Folder X was unable to correctly find the Desktop folder.

  • Eliminated an annoying flicker that sometimes occurred when clicking in a file dialog.

  • Corrected a bug with Logic Pro 8 when running under Mac OS 10.4.

  • Added support for SharpShooter.

Default Folder X ReviewGood product but one very bad thing.... - Version: 4.3.2, 11/1/2009 09:33AM PST

So Default Folder works great. I'm a registered user and recommend it. That being said, the downside is that they frequently want you to update their product, and this is the type of thing you want to stay on top of. Updates are complicated and cumbersome. You click "yes I want to download," then go to their web page and have to hunt for the small download link on their odd web page, then download the installer, then run the installer, click OK, then you have to log out and in to have it take effect. This happens frequently enough. They could make it easier and I have asked and they acknowledge this is something they could improve but they cannot be bothered to do it yet. Because of this thing, I give it 3 stars, as it is a frequent and significant annoyance they could fix but don't.
