Default Folder X ReviewWouldn't want a Mac without it - Version: 4.3.4, 12/1/2009 08:01AM PST

I've used this utility since the early days, pre OSX and it's extremely useful. I'm a minimalist when it comes to software that enhances the OS but this is in the top 5 list. In combination with good tagging software (such as Tags or freeware alternatives) it's an effective combination for simplifying organization and finding things quickly. Highly recommended. On a critical note, the settings could be more clear & distinct. A built in upgrader which downloads and installs for you (like Adium) would be nice but hardly deal-breakers. Still worthy of 4.5 stars!

Default Folder X ReviewGood product but one very bad thing.... - Version: 4.3.2, 11/1/2009 09:33AM PST

So Default Folder works great. I'm a registered user and recommend it. That being said, the downside is that they frequently want you to update their product, and this is the type of thing you want to stay on top of. Updates are complicated and cumbersome. You click "yes I want to download," then go to their web page and have to hunt for the small download link on their odd web page, then download the installer, then run the installer, click OK, then you have to log out and in to have it take effect. This happens frequently enough. They could make it easier and I have asked and they acknowledge this is something they could improve but they cannot be bothered to do it yet. Because of this thing, I give it 3 stars, as it is a frequent and significant annoyance they could fix but don't.

Default Folder X ReviewFixes an important issue ... - Version: 4.3.2, 10/30/2009 03:52AM PST

In this version DF doesn't try to mount remote servers when you pass over them in the DF menu. This is a great relief as I have aliases of quite a few servers in my favorite folder (the aliases are locked, otherwise they disappear when unmounted). Previously I would end up with connections to a few servers on my desktop, just because I hovered over their aliases in DF menu - in some cases it took a long time to mount these. With 4.3.2, only when I choose the server, it is being mounted. For this 5 stars to DF - again.

Default Folder X Commentary There seems to be a bug in version 4.3.1 - Version: 4.3.1, 10/15/2009 07:48AM PST

I don't know why, but ever since I installed version 4.3.1 the "hot keys" do not work. At one point I even uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled everything. However, it still does not work.

Default Folder X Troubleshooting ReportThe "DFX" Applescript Application for 10.6 - Version: 4.3, 8/30/2009 06:06AM PST

Is this still current, because I no longer see the "Default Folder Extras" folder installed in the Utilities folder.

Just for yucks, I did double click on it and it seems to work UNTIL I select, for example, "Get Info" and then it freezes.

I really don't use it, so this is just a curiosity thing. Thanks for listening.

Default Folder X ReviewExtremely useful and worth every cent ... - Version: 4.2.1, 7/11/2009 04:39AM PST

Default folder is the main (only is more correct) finder navigation I use, almost from the day I purchased it. It is useful from both the main menu and of course from the open/save dialogs. In fact I treat it as an extension of the OSX and can't think of an operating system without it. The new feature of expanding view of the files fits apples' new architecture like a glove. Don't remember when and how much I paid the last upgrade, but I assure you that the this is a money well spent.

Default Folder X ReviewIndispensable, reasonably priced - Version: 4.2.1, 7/8/2009 12:37PM PST

Default Folder X and Path Finder are the two most indispensable utilities I use. Someone said too expensive--given I use it countless (yes, no exaggeration) times per day and have had free updates for as long as I can remember, the advantageous functions and time-saving features of these programs make them among the *best* investments I have ever made. Default Folder X is the main way I navigate open and save dialogue boxes and I detest using someone else's computer without it.

Default Folder X ReviewFar too expensive - Version: 4.2.1, 7/7/2009 03:41PM PST

Sure, it's handy but not indispensable. If the price wasn't so ridiculously steep, I might even buy it.
