MemoryStick ReviewIndispensable Utility for PPC - Version: 1.5, 7/8/2009 08:26AM PST

younkint
We've been using this on several Macs for years now. It's so valuable that it's set to automatically start on login for all our users. If your machine starts to get into trouble with an application hogging too much memory, you will see it immediately. The window can be formed to take up a tiny sliver of space, yet still give a complete graphical view of memory usage. It is particularly good for less technical users, yet shows details useful to sophisticated users as well. There seems to be no hit on system resources whatsoever.

We've never had the first problem with this little application and the price is right - free.

It's indispensable for us. Do remember, this is PPC only.

Sorry about that. I think the download is fixed now. (I don't understand what the problem was - even on my own machine, making an archive and trying to unzip fails, and I don't know why. I should have tested this before posting. It is now a zipped .dmg and it appears to work fine.)

That works go figure! I would rather have the Tiger version as I have 10.4.6

MemoryStick CommentaryGreat program, needs one minor change... - Version: 1.3.4, 4/15/2005 11:41PM PST

MemoryStick is so useful, I leave it open permanently. I don't have a very large hard drive, so keeping on top of the swapfiles is important & when something is leaking memory and consuming my hard drive with swapfiles I need to know about it pronto so I can open Activity Monitor and hunt it down. (Hint: don't install Spanner.)

The one problem: The audio alerts, which are essential, should be user-changeable. The default "DOONNGGGG!!" clanging sound is very irritating when you have a lot of swap activity, particularly if you are hung over as I was this morning.

...Would be ifyour could make the stick be either the menu bar background (colors across the top) or the dock background. I currently put the stick behind my dock, but it keeps trying to pop out (ever since the 10.3 version this has been happenning). But methinks the next version of this should be a Tiger Dashboard widget...

MemoryStick ReviewMemoryLeak? - Version: 1.3.1, 7/18/2004 08:05PM PST

Cheezmo
Appears to have a memory leak!

I left it running on a server for 5 days and when i returned, it was consuming 750Mb of RAM?

I would love to use it (and often do, but just to peak), but not if it is going to consume the memory it is monitoring!

Works great for me on OS X 10.3.4. Very helpful for showing memory swap-out activity, number of swap files, and RAM usage/loading in OS X. Also useful for showing if memory swap-outs are causing system slow down and if a system would benefit from adding more RAM. Thanks!
