Product Description:

Ambar displays icons for all running applications in the menu bar. A click on an application's icon pops up the so called dock menu. Maybe this is pointless for those already got used to the Dock, but I know there is a reasonable amount of users that still prefer the menu bar for switching apps. Old habits die hard.
In its current state Ambar is more or less a test and demonstration for getting an application's window list - which is quite difficult to accomplish under Mac OS X. However, now as I'm aware of a solution, I plan to implement that kind of functionality for ASM ( http://asm.vercruesse.de ) and Menuversum ( http://menuversum.vercruesse.de ).

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

of the best apps I have ever used) is a menu extra, this is not. Therefore it is not moveable. I can't move the mouse over another icon without having to let go of the mouse button and then click again. Ought to have a prefs pane. Nice for an intial test, though. The one thing I really don't like, however, is the fact that when you have five or six apps open at a time, it uses a rather large amount of space. If you are running this in addition to ASM (and clock and sound and monitors and PPP and modem and applescript and classicspy and cee pee you and youpi key) your menu space has suddenly all gone away. I love ASM for it's flexibility. This doesn't have the same appeal. Overall, great for a first release, but needs tons of cleaning up.

but it really needs one-click activation. If you agree, send an email to the developer, so it gets fixed!

waiting for something like this since I started using "TaskMenuBar" on OS 9.1 the dock is useless, it jumps around and hides important applications, even worse, apple-tab doesnt work the way it should having an icon of application on the menu bar is just logical as it doesnt take additional screen space. if Ambar will be implemented a little bit better it will a great app (one click to switch app, perhaps add ability to drag/drop?). here is how taskbar (for os 9 only)looks and works: http://pw1.netcom.com/~kawahara/taskmenubar.html
