Product Description:

MT-NewsWatcher is a Usenet news client for the Macintosh. Usenet is a globally distributed news network over which many thousands of people distribute messages every day, and which contains discussion groups on virtually every topic under the sun. MT-NewsWatcher allows you to quickly and efficiently target the articles you wish to read, with sophisticated yet easy to use filtering, searching and sorting features. The program also makes viewing and saving binaries from newsgroups easy, and works transparently across multiple news servers. MT-NewsWatcher is derived from an earlier program called simply "NewsWatcher", by John Norstad of Northwestern University, but greatly enhances that program's feature set.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed a crash closing subject windows after rebuilding the full groups list.
  • Fix an issue where Extract Binaries would sometimes stall after choosing a destination folder.
  • Clear the news server authentication password field when switching between news servers.

MT-NewsWatcher ReviewGreat, but... - Version: 3.5.3b3, 4/30/2009 10:31AM PST

Great newsreader with many nice features and ease of use, but because of following limitations and very slow development (despite I donated :), I'm seriously thinking moving to another app:

  • News window limited to 100,000 articles, no convenient way to fetch the remaining articles (100,000+). Very annoying since my news provider keep in some groups more than 1,000,000 articles.

  • Binaries decoding fails quiet often while inline browsing and saving, in particular with some multi part messages.

  • Articles can't be marked for later download.

  • no .nzb support.

One more feature request: binaries download should be recorded in a log which entries could be selectable to be saved in a .nzb file. Reason: when you download from many groups together while checking the resulting files an other day, it's very annoying not knowing from which group/date they where downloaded.

Adding these little enhancements, this would be definitely the best mac newsreader for me :)
