Bought this application because they told, that they will work on the beta version and if the final version is ready we can get this one automaticly. So I wanted to support this project. Now they do nothing, the last version alwayxs crashes (maybe becauese 10.4.9). So don´t waste your time with this app.
Dead? - Version: 4.0b12, 11/17/2006 02:16PM PST

Is this thing dead? The last update here on VT was months ago. The last posted beta version has expired, presumably months ago. The last update on the developer's site was in January of 2006. Their Kagi store is not currently accepting orders.
Shame. Seems like it could have filled a niche.

i checked baytex out cause i've decided to learn how to dj, basically beat match. since is don't have cash to buy decks and a mixer i decided to go the laptop method. i like the layout of this baytex party, it's not as intimidating as say dj1800, but it won't play any of the tracks i downloaded off itunes. i can get it to play my mp3s that i ripped off cds. i've emailed the developer, but haven't had a response. i'd like to use this app due to the friendlier interface, but dj1800 has better itunes intergration as it'll play any track in my library.

Not to be confused with earlier versions of Baytex party which had a different gui approach and used realbasic which felt clunky. This is a ground-up re-development and definitely worth checking out. i love it.
Integrates nicely with the itunes library. Does everything i hoped it would and is easy-to-use.
Works fine for me on an old G3 ibook, even with pitching and EQ on.
As with all dj programs, it helps if you have a second sound out (eg. usb), for cueing up tracks. but not essential, and Baytex takes care of all setup for you.
Wouldn't surprise me if Apple licenses this, or creates something similar, to include in a future version of itunes. it's that good.
(and then watch out for a new wave of ibook-based dj's!)
notice this is still a beta. i didn't find a single bug or problem under Tiger but clearly others did, under previous OS's, The 45min auto-quit and relaunch is annoying but reasonable i guess - to encourage purchase. Felipe says the official release is due "soon", but he's been saying that for a while :-)

Does not launch in 10.3 - Uses CoreData framework - Version: 4.0b2.1, 7/24/2005 08:02PM PST

The release notes above on this page indicate that this version (4.0b2.1) will run in 10.3. Not so, as made evident by this crash report:
can't open library: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreData.framework/Versions/A/CoreData
CoreData is not part of 10.3, so the author needs to use a different technology if he wants people with 10.3 to use the software.

too personal beatmaster or I'll ask you what your name really means :-)
But you know what? If the developer would actually sit down and work out the bugs, return replies, try to help and provide service to his customers - the software and concept are great. It's all there. As both a professional broadcaster and DJ, an engineer and techncian, I know a good concept when I see one.
The cross fades work without audio drops, the play lists and request lists are a great idea. But, who knows which series of actions cause the lockups, shut downs and no shows (songs and timing postings). "It's a good thing to know the music before playing it".
A word to the developer - spend some time - solve the problems and make your customers (like me) happy. Otherwise - don't waste time promoting a product you have no intention of caring for.
Another word to the purchaser - make sure you get what you pay for - before buying!
I'll be happy to send a better report if, and/or when the developer cleans up his act.
