MOX Optimize CommentaryWHY PAY $$$ - FreeWare alternatives exist and most work better... - Version: 2.1.2, 4/8/2005 07:56AM PST

This product is shareware and wants $$$ to continue to allow you to alter the preference files on your system. (Oddly enough, the author seems to have pirated someone else's icon. See other comment in this thread.) You could of course, just alter those preference files yourself (with programs such as TextEdit, HexEdit, Plist Editor Pro etc.) or you could use other FREEWARE software to change the settings. Here are some listed on VersionTracker right now.

Tweaker 1.1 FREEWARE - simple tool to change a few hidden OS X options

MisFox 1.2.1 FREEWARE - (Missing Internet Settings for X) gui for hidden net settings

xDock 2.1.2 FREEWARE - alter hidden Dock properties

MOX Optimize ReviewGood but not perfect - Version: 2.1.2, 7/19/2004 05:57PM PST

Mikolin
There is still some things this program can do that no other can.
The interface is not very good, even though there are a lot of features. The FAQ contains a lot of useful information as do the help tips
I like it because it stays in the background and is configure once run alone type of program.
However, updates could be done for an improved interface and other small tweaks.
The acceleration seems to work although I cannot measure it.
Keep up the good work!

MOX Optimize ReviewWhat MOX Optimize can do - Version: 2.1.2, 2/1/2004 01:52AM PST

...that most of the fine other utilities mentioned here (OnyX, Xupport, Cocktail, etc.), is to provide a convenient way of disabling extensions, sort of like OS 9's Extensions Manager. So what if the interface looks ugly? Still works.

MOX Optimize CommentaryQuit using my icon - Version: 2.1.2, 1/25/2004 02:04PM PST

I notified the developer of this app that he was using an icon from an old version of Pacifist for the Prebinding tab way back in September. Now, almost five months later, the icon is still in there. Infosoft, if you're reading this, PLEASE REMOVE MY ICON FROM YOUR APP. Thank you.

MOX Optimize ReviewDisappointment-Greedy Developer - Version: 2.1.2, 11/30/2003 09:53AM PST

I purchased a license for 1.7.8, and it did some useful things, although not anything that several other utilities don't also do. But I am hugely disappointed that the developer expects me to pay again for v.2. As far as I know, there was no version 1.x after 1.7.8, so I think it's simply a case of a greedy developer. My advice to prospective users would be for you to find other utilities that do the same thing and have more generous upgrade policies. Tinker Tool, Cocktail, and Braodband Optimizer come immediately to mind. Otherwise you may find yourself paying over and over for a lot of nothing.

The interface looks terrible, too. The buttons and their labels are smashed together making them difficult to read. Frankly, it looks like an amateurish design, and it doesn't inspire much confidence in the quality of the software itself.

MOX Optimize ReviewWondeful app. Not… - Version: 2.0, 10/1/2002 09:56AM PST

Major Nice
often that I'll pull out the credit card for a shareware program, especially one that already gives you 90% of it's features for free, but I'm impressed enough by it to want any updates, betas, and the databases on further optimisation information - so a Premium licence it is for me!! (And, mondomac, where is this panhandling for good reviews that you spoke of? I couldn't find it.)

what it promises...and does it well. The UI is functional if not a work of art but I'm not really interested in "MOX Art". (by the way mondomac the mouse speed thingie is there).

MOX Optimize ReviewI bought the… - Version: 2.0, 9/30/2002 09:25AM PST

previous version and gave it five stars because the features and price seemed reasonable. Version two is very disappointing. I seem to remember a mouse speed feature which is not included -- did it in Terminal so I know it can be done in 10.2.1. Rewritten or not, this is mostly a bunch of 10.2 fixes with a couple new useful features. UI is silly bad, and yes it matters. This version is presented and delivered in a most amateur manner, and to me not worth even the upgrade price. Minus a star each for: removing the mouse speed option, unintuitive interface, lack of decent documentation, panhandling for "good" reviews on website by offering a chance for free license. > rm -Rf MOX Optimize 2/

Optimize user, I'm a bit dissapointed with the new version (2). It's a bit buggy, the interface could be improved, I can do most of the functions with fereware, etc. I truly was looking forward to this, but there's nothing in this new version that merits paying for an upgrade. The previous version deserves 4 stars and I rated it that way in June, but this one was a huge dissapointment.

do its job, but it doesn't do it well. the interface is clunky, ugly, and unorganized. also, the thing is unstable. it doesn't quit right.
