Silverfast v/s VueScan

Just to give credit where credit is due: SilverFast AI is professional scanning software, which has a large feature set and powerful interface that requires some education to get the most out of. For those who understand it, it is a fine and afaik unparallelled professional scanning application. VueScan is also excellent for what it is: intermediate scanning software for those who don't want or don't need many features, or don't know how to use them and don't want to take the time to learn, but rather intend to do all or most of the tweaking in Photoshop. It is very good for that level of user, but is very limited in comparison with SilverFast.

the software will support earlier Polaroid scanners. It has nice features that are missed that would have been great on my sprintscan plus. I would gladly pay for software that would upgrade my scanner software. Vuescan is the alternatice that runs OSX but there is no alternative and there are times when a differing approach would be useful.

SF ever since version 5.0 was thrown in with my SS400. LaserSoft have managed to improve on the program with each new version. The new SDR is great, NegaFix is still great, batch scanning works like a charm, color correction tools are some of the easiest I've used.

6.0.1r05 for my Sprintscan 4000 and it works perfectly in Os 10.1.5 and in 10.2!!! Only funny thing in 10.2 is that it displays my scsi only scanner as a firewire device!? But it works flawlessly! Even better than in Os 9.2!

best Scanning Software in my opinion BUT I must say it seems a bit silly that I pay for an OS X compatible version and Firewire Support is not there! Hopefully they will offer a free upgrade soon with Firiwire Support so I can use the uprade with my Polaroid SprintScan 120 without having to deal with SCSI.

install both a SilverFast Standalone application in the Applications folder, and will look for the Photoshop 7 (carbon) plugins folder. I was told there will be a second release for Photoshop 6 (classic) very soon.
