Just to give credit where credit is due: SilverFast AI is professional scanning software, which has a large feature set and powerful interface that requires some education to get the most out of. For those who understand it, it is a fine and afaik unparallelled professional scanning application. VueScan is also excellent for what it is: intermediate scanning software for those who don't want or don't need many features, or don't know how to use them and don't want to take the time to learn, but rather intend to do all or most of the tweaking in Photoshop. It is very good for that level of user, but is very limited in comparison with SilverFast.

break! This software is always been substandard - over dressed, under powered, and archaic. I wouldnt use this rubish for professional purposes even if they gave it away for free. Vuescan (all be it simpler) is immensly superior to this poor excuse for software.

a bit paranoid. Silverfast costs substantially more than Vuescan, which probably accounts for the diffference in the number of people reviewing each product. The only problem I've had with this version so far was getting it serialized; but Lasersoft responded fairly quickly (considering I e-mailed them over the Thanksgiving holiday) with a serial # that worked. I've been using it with PS 7, OS 10.2.2 and a Sprintscan 4000 .
